Short stacking 0.50/£1. Started with £25 and table has seen me almost double up pretty quick, always shown down a strong hand. Anyone at the table paying attention should know I am not making any moves. Pick up Jacks in the Big Blind. Tempted to fold, but thats just -EV. Villain was the one who helped me double up and always had second best (or less) I realise this could be seen as defending my blind, but I'm hoping table image pays off. As villain hasn't been playing so tight I figure I am favourite on the flop and push. I don't think he's priced in for the flush draw, and he can't think I'd shove if I couldn't beat top pair (I would think) I'm also not raising in the BB with suited connectors. Heres how it goes...

Game Hold'em NL (£0.50/£1)
Table Seat 1 is the button.

----- SHOW DOWN -----
HERO (BB): shows [ ] (A Pair of Jacks, King high)
VILLAIN (SB): shows [ ] (A Flush, King high)
VILLAIN (SB) collected £102.56 from Main pot
----- SUMMARY -----
Total pot £105.56 Main pot £102.56 Rake £3
Board [ ]
Seat 1: VILLAIN (BUTTON) (button) folded on the Flop
Seat 2: VILLAIN (SB) (small blind) showed [ ] and won (£102.56) with A Flush, King high
Seat 3: HERO (BB) (big blind) showed [ ] and lost with A Pair of Jacks, King high
Seat 4: VILLAIN (UTG) folded before Flop (didn't bet)
Seat 5: VILLAIN folded before Flop (didn't bet)

Bad luck, bad call, or bad play?? Guess its the danger of short stacking but I am finding it far more profitable (usually!)

If the Two Diamonds falls on the river you'd have forgotten the hand in 2mins flat, you got unlucky, simple as, nothing more.  You got your money in good.

Also bet more on the flop,  $8 or $9, even a pot sized bet...

you forgot the first rule of short-stacking.. always rathole that money before you get so deep that you have to play postflop

As for this hand, flush draws never fold and people dont care about shortstackers, thats why people shortstack. Overpair = allin, if you lose, do another 1/4 reload and go for it again.

The key to succesful shortstacking is to put a man to a decision for some of his chips, you did that, and got unlucky. Rough luck.

What? You never just look at a hand and smell the trouble brewing? Wink

I agree with TheChipPrince, the bet on the flop didn't really represent strength, I rarely check and with a flop like that i don't want to price anyone out just yet, my thinking being if they raise i will shove and then they are only calling with a better hand (which i don't think they are limping with pf) just wondering if anyone would let the turn come off, and what you would do then. If SB doesn't shove, I'm not sure I can bluff it, and if i do, I don't think he's folding anyway.

As for ratholing.... yup I got caught getting too greedy here, last table I bought in for £25 and left with £130....sometimes hard to stop when you're getting good action!!

Another one for the bad beat list I guess....cheers

You were unlucky, you lost your $47.78 and the 50p for the bad beat story Smiley
