How much is the min raise ?
«

Blinds 400/800
Seat 3 raises to 1600
Seat 4 raises to 2400
Dealer says to seat 5 "2400 to call"
The table starts arguing about the raise.
Half says it should be double to previous bet , the locals says the raise of another 800 is correct.
Anyway the 2400 stands.
Most places Ive played the norm is to double the entire previous bet which would have been 3200 , however in a few places they can raise by the last raise as above?
Bit confusing cos i like to play in different casinos.
What is the next minimum amount after 1600 ?
I'm personally used to 3200 as being the minimum the re raise has to be ,am i correct or wrong ?

wrong
seat 3 makes it 800+800 (800 is the raise, 1,600 total)
seat 4 makes it 1,600+800 (800 is the raise, 2,400 total)
Any raise must be at least the amount of the previous raise. The player making it 2,400 satisfies these conditions.
This double the previous bet crowd, I don't know where they're coming from.

The only time a bet has to be double is the initial raise. As Thetank says, player A raises 800 with 800, player B has to then raise a minimum of 1600 (the previous total) with 800.
Had player A made it 1800, player B has to make it 1800 with 1000 (the initial raise).
As far as I know, this is the universal rule

Any other ruling is stupid and is made by someone who does not understand the difference between a bet and a raise

OK thanks got it now i think
Seat 3 , 800 + 800 = 1600 total
Seat 4 , 800 + 1600 = 2400 total
should seat 5 want to min raise again , then 800 + 3200 = 4000 total ?
then 800 + 6400 = 7200 ?
Correct ?
Sorry for asking such embarressing easy questions

No...
The blinds are 400/800.
Someone raises to 1600. This is a raise of 800. 800 + 800 = 1600.
All raises must be at least the size of the previous raise. Not the previous bet.
So the next raise is 1600 + 800 = 2400.
Then 2400 + 800 = 3200.
3200 + 800 = 4000
4000 + 800 = 4800
etc etc etc

Seat 4 , 800 +

should seat 5 want to min raise again , then 800 +
3200
= 4000 total ?
The bolded figures are how much it would be if you were to just call at that point.
The red figure is where you've gone wrong, it should be 2,400

Another quick example, this time when seat 3 raises a bit more (up to 2,000) to begin with.
Seat 3 puts in 2,000 which is...
800 to call + 1,200 of a raise.
It's now 2,000 on seat 4, if they want to min raise, it'll have to be at least 1,200
seat 4 does decide to min raise so puts in 3,200 which is
2,000 to call + 1,200 of a raise
