Always loved Grand Designs and enjoyed this one. I think I'd have had a heart attack when they lost 5 metres off the cliff. Don't think I'd have chosen that plot!

This episode is madness.

Thoughts tighty!?

the end result was a spectacular house to a high spec

buying a plot on a cliff edge, with such access problems just seemed bananas to me throughout

they think the house has 60 years before it falls into the sea!

Just watched the program, what a lovely house.  I do really like the open plan living downstairs.

Is the upstairs modest in size?  They had a lot of usable space up there but the bedroom didn't seem that big and the bathroom (from what they showed) didn't look that big either.   I wouldn't been keen on not having blinds/curtains or something at least on the bedroom and especially the shower and bath windows!  Very brave.  Breathtaking views though, I can see why they don't want to interrupt them, what a place.  It must be a joy to wake up in the mornings with that view.

Do they have two dogs?

Hope the cliff holds out for them, it'll be interesting to revisit in a year or so to see how it's holding up.

Was with the family today to play tennis and was interesting to hear some things.

The 60 years for the cliff is incorrect. They have just had a survey done and the worst estimates with the worst global warming effect etc still predict over 100 years, but you dont want facts to get in the way of a good story! A lot of the figures were not right as well again it was to simiplify/make a better story which is a bit disappointing and may spoil future grand designs for me.

They were at the house yesterday and apparently the already busy footpath that runs near the house was exponentially busy with people taking photos etc. They let people come and have a look around for a bit as well but they said after 30 odd people in an hour they wanted some peace and quiet!!

I need to rewatch the episode at some point. Its always scary to think that all the filiming gets put into like 40 minutes after adverts

I started watching this but thought that they were nuts building so close to the cliff. No way is that lasting 100 years.

Saw the programme the other day (not sure whether repeat) where they are renovating and turning an old cinema into a home. Acres of exposed concrete inside - Tikay heaven!

Just watched this having recorded it.

wow!

I'm struck by the thought I have with many of these builds. Absolutely stunning to live in for a period, but I don't know that I'd want to live there longterm.
Having said that, I doubt I could ever tire of waking up to that view.

Can't imagine any house fitting on that site. What they built was neither home nor workplace and they beat hope that the land becomes much more valuable if they want to recover their costs IMHO

Good TV though.
