I watched Gettysburg the other day.  Great movie.

Has anyone seen  Gods and Generals?  It is the prequel to Gettysburg.  I got that out of the library earlier.

Can't believe I missed this thread as the Warriors is my favourite film. Basically I know the film word for word and knew the answer after the first line. Walter Hill's "the warriors" was produced in the summer of 1978 and rushed out so it was released before the wanderers. After getting some initial good reviews the film was quickly withdrawn from cinema's as gangs started to go and watch it and basically violent clashes occurred, resulting in lot's of bad press.

There are a number of versions of this film which include:

1. the original Walter Hill version on VHS and DVD where it starts with the night scene and the only day scene is at the end back in Coney Island
2. a tv version which has an opening day scene featuring Cleon and his girlfriend and also an introduction of the 9 warriors.
3. the recent directors cut DVD which has amended scenes and dodgy cartoon edits. This is apparentantly how Walter Hill had planned the film if he hadn't been so rushed into completing the film to beat the Wanderers release.
4. and there is also a DVD produced by a follow fan which has various deleted and extended scenes included.

I can also recommended to fans of the film the PS2/xbox game by rockstar.

As the film was rushed out there are many bloppers to be spotted by the hardcore fans. There is a remake planned but it is more the case that there are merely using the cult name of the film and not copying the cult classic storyline, so no Ajax, baseball furies, etc, etc. This "remake" is a MTV production and the director is Tony Scott (Domino & the Hunger) and is planned to be based on the crips and bloods gangs rather than the fantastic stylised gangs like the high hats, the bloppers and the brillant baseball furies. No repeat of the classic lines "warriors come out to playeeeeeeeeeeee" or "I'm going to shove that bat up your arse and turn you into a popsicle". However the biggest crime of the scheduled remake, which has yet to go into production, is that it is going to be set in LA and not New York. This is a real joke as the bopping from tube stations to tube station to get back to Coney Island was what made this work. Another joke is that Tony Scott wants the gang numbers to run into the thousands rather than the 9 guys in the Walter Hill version.

Why does lazy hollywood have this current obsession with "remaking" classic films, lazy bloody suits thinking it's another easy cash cow. The remake of the Italian Job was as the lizzies would say "real lame". In a film made great by it's car chases the remake has about 5 minutes worth of classic mini action. I also hear that hollywood are to remake "the Wickerman". God forbid whant the Americans will do with this classic but I have heard that they plan to base the story in Canada rather than Scotland.

p.s. I've also got a copy of the original film script for anybody interested which includes the storyline of Swan being captured by the Dingos, a gay gang with doberman dogs and a storyline which see's the death of certain warriors who survive in the Walter Hill's final version and whilst other Warriors survive till the end when they didn't in the final produced film.

yes (Alien).

Also, Hollywood definitely should stop remaking films, but we all know they won't.

It's depressing in particular when it's a favourite of yours, and you know they won't even get it as good as the original, let alone improve upon it (good reason for me not to watch the remake of Assault on Precinct 13, for example.)
