Question for all the regular MTT online players - how often do you chaps win a tourney? 1 in how many roughly?  I know it's more about cashing than winning when you're trying to make a living, although of course winning is nice.  Reason I ask is that I made my second win yesterday which was a right result as I was very excitable leading up to it and fully expected to mess it all up... I don't play them regularly - only one a week or so - I tend to focus on STTs for pocket money, but it got me thinking, how often do the regulars on the site make it all the way?  Do you still get excited when you make the final?

I dont have figues for my win ratio but it's not very high! It doesn't matter how many MTTs you play I think most people still get the buzz when getting to the final table. I think the buzz is even bigger if you are not a regual MTT player, the same way that someone who does not often play cash tables will find winning a bigish pot more of a buzz than someone who is a cash table grinder.

Since i began keeping record from the beginning of 2004 i have won 25 MTT's outright on pokerstars (approx 1%), i have done deals in 44 other tournaments, made 184 Final Tables and cashed in a total of 372 tournaments.

I still get the buzz when making the final table of a decent sized tourney but as its best to try keep on an even keel so as not to make as many mistakes as possible during the latter stages i keep it under control until after the tournament has finished.

Wow that's loads Matt well done!!!  outta how many is that?!  That's exactly my problem - when I do play them, I regularly get just in the cash, then get massively over excited, go a bit mad and lose it all.  I'm fine live - for some reason I stay more focused, but online MTTs do my head in!! great fun though.  Just a bit too much variance for me though as I don't play that much.  Last night I sat there and kept mumbling 'keep it together, keep it together'... hehe

I've played just over 2500 regular MTT's on pokerstars. I've also played Super Satellites as well but they aren't included in the figures from my last post.

If you keep telling yourself that the more you make it to the final tables then the easier you'll find it to keep your emotions to a minimum, the easier you'll find it to stop the sudden rush of adrenilin when your involved in a big pot to take the chip lead of the tournament with only a few players left.

Yes you'll still get the feelings but you'll know how to control them better - pretend your online tournament is actually being held in a B&M casino, do whatever it is that keeps you from getting "over-excited" when playing live when your playing online.

Keep up the good work thumbs up

Cheers Matt - that's the kind of thing I'm looking for  on the Poker Coach thread below.

Ok well since the start of 2005 i have played 1040 comps. Of those 208 final tables, and of those 40 2nds and 47 wins.

You saying playing for a living wins aren't the aim but cashing is, that couldnt be more correct and incorrect at the same time.......the aim is to maximise any position you are in at any given time. That normaly means go for the win, but if laddering is the highest EV thing to do then its what must be done!

I cant seem to bloody finish'em off, although the money is great its so annoying not to have more wins under my belt.

Be quite interesting to know how many people have never won one - I  would think that for every Royal Fish there are 99 people who have never won one who participate in them fairly regularly.

I've never won one.  Been playing for about 6 months and probably do two a week or so.  Have made a few final tables, but yet to come out on top.
