Stars $109 tourney, fairly early on.  Not shown down any hands and not entered many pots but won a few.  No read on opponent other than they moved in a couple of hands before with no callers.

AA and KK are obvious calls no matter the table/player

Call with AK, QQ and JJ depending on any read i have on the player

Im folding everything else

He probably has two over cards and i dont want a race at this early stage in a tournament

Why don't you want to race?  What is "a better spot"?  Gonna sit back and wait for aces?  It's a 1500 stack tourney with a standard clock, not 10,000 with 2 hour clock.

Hypothetically, if you KNOW he has AK, do you call or fold?

what are the blinds? i thought it was early in the tournament?

if its early on and he has AK, im still folding. No need to risk my tournament on a 50/50 shot IMO

This is player dependent but i think usually you gotta fold.

The other day in the 5k I was at a table where one player stood out as very poor. Level 2 i limped 88 UTG for 60, it came round to him and he pushed for 900. everyone else passed so it was heads up and i instacalled as i knew even 88 was killing his range and i wanted his chips before he spunked them off elsewhere. He flipped J2 off (yes he hit the obligatory jack lol)

The other aspect of this was I wouldve had 700 left if i was wrong which i thought i could work back into a stack if i needed to.

Very few players are this crazy preflop though so personally i fold 95% of the time here. As a good player you'll find some better spots to commit with.

99 you wont be in good shape vs most people's ranges though find a crazy and it might be a call.

It says at the top 50-100, he has pushed in for 20x bb. I am thinking he has AK TT 99 88 77.
