The only gripe I would have - were I playing - would be I'd prefer to play 8 or 9 to a table. At 10 to a table, everyone is squished up terribly. Always seem to be the way that pokerists get all scrunged up, too many round an inadequately-sized table. Guess it cuts down on dealer costs, & frees up tables for revenue earning cash games.
Is it to differentiate between the EPT– poker stars 9 seat set up?

Possibly, Nice Person In Spain. (The comma is vital).
It would be a weird reason to do it, though!
It's just a hobby-horse of mine. Poker Rooms Europe-wide, we get squeezed into rooms & onto tables way too small.

Couldn’t agree more. I was once put in seat 11 - almost behind the dealer – couldn’t even see those in seats 1-4

Annabelles in Coventry have the one Huge poker table, and three very small ones.
On a busy night they put 10 players on each of the small tables, and 13 on the big one,

At the Barca EPT last autumn, they used the "2 person" Heads-Up Tables as full size tables, & sat 8 players at them!

Regarding the ten-handed tables:
Generally, the WPT has no influence over the tournament until the final table. The casino's tournament director runs the tournament until then regarding blind structure, rulings, etc.
I would imagine it's either a house style for the ACF, or perhaps they were tight on space (sounds like it) and needed to fit as many players as possible.
In some American WPT events, they switch to nine-handed on Day Three, but again, it varies from casino to casino.

OK, in the hope that something really dramatic doesn't alter this too much in the last 3 minutes of play, here are the Chip Counts According to Me and Rolf:
(deep breath)
Alan Smurfit 24,000
Frederik Hostrup 7,025
Erik Koskas 76,000
Alan Goehring 13,000
Tony G 10,000
John Kabbaj 44,000
Edward Rhee 20,000
Freddy Deeb 7,000
Patrick Bueno 7,000
Roland de Wolfe 8,000
Henrik Witt 58,000
Kurt Kohlberg 49,000
Willie Tann 6,400
Johan Storakers 22,000
Andreas Hagen 43,000
Pete Haslam 20,000
Theo Jorgensen 7,500
El Blondie 26,000
Gilles Haddad 38,000
Anders Berg 26,500
Rene Pedersen 13,000
Ram Vaswani 55,000
Thomas Middelthon 7,800
John Gale 25,500
Roman Yitzhaki 31,000
Surinder Sunar 30,000
Julian Thew 19,000
Simon Nowab 32,000
Casey Kastle 22,000
Sarah Bilney 26,000
Mikael Thuritz 26,000
Steven Frederiks 7,500
Jani Sointula 22,800
Elky 21,000
Matt Tyler 19,450
Anthony Lellouche 20,000
Jim Kerrigan 19,000
Sorry, this is not a totally comprehensive count, and there may be a 1000 or so misplaced, but it's the best we can do. The crowds are milling and the cash games are buzzing. I might hang around to get a few stories before heading for the air-conditioned sanctuary of the hotel...

Rather unsurprisingly, the tired players are going home now to rest before tomorrow's start at 4pm (France time), so I will amuse you (well, myself really) with these contrasting pictures of the press -
1) Tikay - industrious, focused, businesslike

2) From left to right, BA Kildalen, Stephen Bartlett, Rolf Slotboom - not.

Actually, to give credit where it's due, Snoopy came up with that little gem, but we periodically forget... ta though!

Jen & I just had a ciggie break, during which a nice gentleman tapped me on the shoulder & said he enjoyed watching me on PNL. (No, really, he did....). Turned out his name is Tom Cherrett, (online "annacash") & he said he just played €10 MTT's & stuff, a "novice" he described himself as. "What you doing here Tom?", I enquired.
It transpires that he entered a Freerill on Poker Heaven - 1,400 runners - & won the thing, winning himself a seat in the Paris WPT. He ended Day 1a with 26,975. How wonderful.
Gotta be nice to him, he represents over 50% of my Fan Club, if we include Flushy.
Yep - Tom (aka ANAKASH) qualified via our Online Series of Poker - a series of 12 freeroll's culminating in a final where the winner took a seat in Paris!
To find out a little more about Tom you can read his player profile on the Community section of our site.
Good luck Tom from myself and everyone at Poker Heaven!!

I just found out about DC's elevating chips - but about half an hour previously when he had only 18k, I saw him take a couple of smaller pots from the same person with that quietly deliberate manner which is so much his style, and he looks to be as comfortable as can be.
Dinner break in 20 minutes, for that lengthy hour and three quarters - I think I may be off in search of steak with Norwegian blogger BA.
And sticking with the theme, here's a photo I left out of my last batch - the now exited Ben 'Milkybarkid' Grundy with a Norseman sat to his right - Snoopy challenge - Name That Norwegian!
A bit late I know - but is it that nice Hennig chap who played at Luton in January and then liked it
taking our money
so much stayed for the rest of the week down at the Vic? If so a very nice chap - and seems to specialise in calling with filth and taking all the chips.
