A little information first.

This is from a WSOP satellite, 1 seat awarded, no prize for second place.

18 players are left at this point the average stack is just over 6K.

The opposition is tough to say the least. Tight and aggressive to the man.

All except H@££INGGOL, who has been sitting out the entire tournament. He is in the big blind this hand, I am on the button.

Blinds are 100/200.

Seat 2: fireguy (1925 in chips)
Seat 3: croth8 (1205 in chips)
Seat 4: Rabscuttle (10175 in chips)
Seat 5: treysfull21 (9964 in chips)
Seat 6: tigmong (5456 in chips)
Seat 7: Croixdawg (11465 in chips)
Seat 8: H@££INGGOL (995 in chips) is sitting out
Seat 9: Smack13x (7460 in chips)
Croixdawg: posts small blind 100
H@££INGGOL: posts big blind 200

*** HOLE CARDS ***
Dealt to tigmong [ ]
Smack13x: folds
fireguy: folds
croth8: folds
Rabscuttle: folds
treysfull21: folds
tigmong: raises 200 to 400
Croixdawg: raises 1000 to 1400
H@££INGGOL: folds
tigmong: raises 4056 to 5456 and is all-in

Is it just a run of the mill re-re-raise steal here, or do you think it's too early on for such a reckless move.

I thought it possible that the small blind was capable of both re-raising on a steal and of being able to make a laydown.

I don't do this kind of thing often and would appreciate any thoughts.

Tank, do you think that the blinds are worth stealing here, after all you have 27*BB.

I would pull your kind of move if i had already folded to his resteal at least once. This way it looks like i actually have a hand this time.

Given that, you raise looks like a blatant steal and he is the chip leader so he is unlikely to have a good hand, hence it is probably a good move once you have decided to go for the steal.

The BB was sitting out, so I just needed to get through one player.

Yea i know, which is why your steal looks blatant and i think you are likely to get played back at from the chip leader. I don't know what your table image was like but you are raising on the button with the BB sitting out, it looks suspect to anyone. If i was in the SB, i would wait until you had done it once (just to make sure you didn't actually have a hand) and then if i thought you were at it, i would stop n go you with rags here.

My point is that i think you are more likely to be played back at (than if both blinds were sitting in) because the BB is sitting out.

I think the risk outweighs the reward here and that it is too early for you to make this all in move.

if you really want those chips and believe he's on a re-steal and/or believes you have a big hand due to a minimum raise then why not call and push on the flop?

The table had been rather aggressive.

This was the first time I'd played a hand in a while, and certainly the first time I'd raised the player who was sitting out's blinds.

Anyway, thanks for the feedback.

The small blind passed, but that's not to say it was the right play.
