Cash Game Confusion

I'm 100% sure that I could play this hand a lot better

10 handed $.5/$1 NLHE cash game, 8 players seated me on the button

$4 is pretty much the standard opening raise of a lot of players at this level on this site, so pretty ordinary preflop - I have a nice hand on the button with only the blinds left so put in a standard raise and see what happens.

My impression of my foe is that he is a mainly a tournament player kicking about in a cash game (based on his player profile and past play i have observed), thus i didn't expect the flop to go smoothly and was happy to call his miniraise and see how things developed on the turn.

The turn I pick up an up and down straight draw and am getting pretty good odds - I was half tempted to raise as a bit of a semi bluff as i had an inkling he was weak. I chose to call thinking he might slow down on the river and check or make a reasonable bet and i could get to the showdown cheaply - thinking that if I had him beat this maximised my gains (he could bluff again, but would fold to my raise) and minimised my losses if I'm behind. I might also hit my draw.

Then I make a set on the river, but there is 4 to a straight on the board, and he goes all in - That wasn't in my plan! 

What to do on the river?

How would you have played the rest of the hand?

I just can't put him on a King or an 8!!!!
Busted flush draw i reckon or maybe 2 pairs.

I pass, in a tournament i might call but this is rarely a move in cash.

i pass, it looks like king jack. No raise preflop. check raise on flop same bet on turn with pair plus straight draw and all in on river then straight came. It looks more like tournament strategy than cash. Pass.

I agree with flushy and john - i just can't see him not having a straight here, it looks like he's hit and wants me think he is bluffing.

So I passed and he didn't show.

How would you have played the rest of the hand though? Any comments on that?

Rest of the hand, pass to the flop min raise it almost always strong and you beat very little here apart from a flush draw and a pure bluff. Your immediate odds look great but in deep stacked poker, you implied odds are negaitve here as you end up tied to your hand when quite often behind.

I have policy that against unknowns in internet NLHE cash that i will pass to flop min raises with alot of hands, for example i would pass  j10, maybe qj as well here, he is strong. If i have reason to believe they are at here i like to push over the top as i really don't know where i am.

I had a feeling he'd be doing the check raise though - defending his blind, so I wasn't happy to pass.

Maybe thinking that I should have checked the flop and seen the turn.

It would then keep the pot smaller and get to the showdown cheaply, which should be my aim on that flop?
