HELP required.

I ordered broadband from Bulldog the other month but seem to have been given a completely different package than i originally intended. This is not the one i wanted.

It turns out its going to be 2Meg rather than 8 i ordered. Will this make a large diff to my online poker playing?

Also, i need to head out and buy a modem tonight as the package they have given me didn't come with a free one (20mins time when i finish work). Any tips on one to go with my wireless laptop???

Thanks

i have a linksys modem for the wireless and that works great for about £25. 2 meg is plenty for playing poker, it may get a bit slow if you downloading stuff etc at the same time.

You won't notice any difference when playing poker but it will be slower when downloading and browsing will be marginally slower.

On my old laptop I had a Linksys wireless card and currently use a Linksys wireless router which has been perfect. The router I have is a WRT-54G. Good luck!

If it's not the package you ordered get on to them  - especially if there was supposed to be a free modem. Don't shell out for something they were supposed to give you for free.

Thanks everyone,

I have a wireless enabled laptop so i should be ok with just a wireless router. ACE, you say you got yours for 25quid? where did you get this? i have been looking online at the large retailers and they all seem to be in the 50+ quid range.

these computers....they so complicated!

Thanks again.

DEFINATELY get on to them about not supplying the package you ordered. Check references, check paperwork and get the product you ordered.

It's probably only 2meg as that is all your line can take.

It will be in the small print that you can get up to 8mb.  They can't guarantee everyone 8mb as your phone line may not be up to the task of taking an 8mb connection.

2mb is fine though, I doubt you will notice any difference at all unless you download very large files.

I just switched from Bulldog to BT, Bulldog was a rather poor service, the line is too long down here to get 8meg but they kept trying which meant the connection was very unstable. On BT now i only get 1mg but it hasnt dropped yet.

Same here JD, BT offer 0.5 meg only due to the exchange being in the outer hebrides.
Bulldog, AOL etc all the same as above.

I went with NTL, 4meg unlimited for 24.99 a month.
