what a day!

As I was leaving for the sunny climbs of Vegas on Friday morning I thought it would be a great idea to stay up through thursday night and sleep on the plane. This great idea turned out to be not really that great. ( a lot of my great ideas follow this pattern). I could not  get to sleep no matter how hard I tried. Oh well I'll just make sure I stay up 'til a reasonable hour and everything will be fine . I dont play until Sunday anyway..........

So I arrive at the check-in desk at the Rio only to be told that my reservation has been cancelled as I didn't turn up the day before." I told the guys at the poker room I wouldn't be turning up until today" I bleated . After they pointed out the fact that they did not physically have any rooms I decided that I was onto a loser and went for a beer or two. After chilling with beer and cigarrettes for a while, I decided to pop down to see Adam who was my contact and would be at the stand in the EXPO that is running here.

Predictably Adam wasnt there and and I spoke to a very nice Lady who gave me the name of another nice lady who she assured me would fix my room mix up. So back off to the hotel reception I go. The decision is to put me in another hotel until sunday when more rooms become available at the Rio. Great I thought , I 've been up for 35 hours and I need to sort myself out. Adam then appears at reception and says " you are playig now" . I laugh out loud at the  absurdity of his statement as I have an e-mail in my pocket that says I play Sunday. When he doesn't join in in the giggle I realise he is serious. "So I have no place to stay and I have missed 5hours of the main event "? I enquire somewhat incredoulsly . "yes" is the short but definate answer I recieve.

Clearly, getting in to the event is the top priority so I hustle on down and register , get my seat allocation and plonk myself down wondering how i am ever going to manage to get through this. My stack has dwindled down to around 8.5k. Which is plenty to be going on with.Phisically tho I am a mess and mentally I am totally unprepared.

11 hours later after making an awesome call ( if I do say so myself) and some good laydowns. There is a cheer and I have made it through to the second day with a workable 15,700. The blinds are 250/500 with 50 next I think. My stack has been to the centre on 3 occaissins with 77 (too short couldnt pass) KK ( it's KK) and Aj ( short stacked in the cutoff ) which rivered a j against 88 to keep me in the tournament.

I have never felt as bad as I did toward the end of the day . Nausea, sweating, black spots before my eyes the whole 9 yards. for the last 2 hours i could barley play and just played the cards as they came.

I am amazed that both me and my stack got through , I was sure one of us would fail. The poker gods showed a little mercy and now I cant wait for tuesday.

I am staying in the Mirage until Sunday when I will be back at the Rio.

I was supposed to meet Tank for a few drinks on friday night. If anyone sees him tell him I was a bit busy!!

I should be a bit miffed at the balls up really but how bad can life be when I am in day 2 with a workable stack? Adam seems a good guy and has already mentioned compenstion so I am sure they will see me alright.

Anyways bedtime
Good luck the blondes.

The very last hand of the night goes to Dewi James, who finds ACES and talks Raymond O’Mahoney into calling his all-in preflop bet of 15k.  “If I had AQ, I’d call!” says Dewi.  Raymond calls holding pocket 66’s.
