BBC2 did a great yearly season of cult films, called 'Moviedrome', that I inevitably looked forward to. Its presenter was none other than "Repo Man"'s director, Alex Cox

I decided not to mention the Italian Job on the basis that it was made in 1969 so hardly qualified as an 80's film

If you include the remake, and take an average, they're both 80's films.

I remember being absolutely horrified by the ending, though.
"But Dad, what happens to the boy? where's he going to live?"
[I maintain that despite the main character being a child, it's not a kids' film... ]

Beetlejuice
I would say Wynona stole the show, but I don't want to get her in trouble.

First saw repo man many years ago on bbc2 when they had this film buff presenting cult films.

Just seen that film 4 are showing the classic "Repo Man" this Friday 11:30ish. I had planned to purchase the DVD this w/e but glad to get the chance to see it first and see if it is still as good as I remember.

I remember it as being utterly bonkers but also compelling, probably because it complies to the legendary "Stanton-Walsh rule"
