I decided not to mention the Italian Job on the basis that it was made in 1969 so hardly qualified as an 80's film

it the case of the itaian job i have seen it 80 times and it has been repeated 80 times on tv other than that its a film 13 years before its time

I remember being absolutely horrified by the ending, though.

"But Dad, what happens to the boy? where's he going to live?"

First saw repo man many years ago on bbc2 when they had this film buff presenting cult films.

Just seen that film 4 are showing the classic "Repo Man" this Friday 11:30ish. I had planned to purchase the DVD this w/e but glad to get the chance to see it first and see if it is still as good as I remember.

I remember it as being utterly bonkers but also compelling, probably because it complies to the legendary "Stanton-Walsh rule"
