Last week WSOP Owner Harrah's announced it was buying London Clubs
Now today Stanley Leisure has announced it has recieved a bid. This is likely to be from overseas too...possibly the Far East
This would mean that Grosvenor aside (and it is not beyond the realms of possibility that a perennially underperforming business like Rank could be broken up) that about half the country's casino estate has been flogged in the last month
For punters, I expect this might be good news...more cutt hroat competition and new innovative owners could produce benefits for us.
Whether this spills over to poker competitions and added value I do not know

I spoke to someone about this the othere day band the guy is pretty much in the know. stanleys has recieved a bid from an American investor...they are very interested in establishing a presence in the cities nominated for a supercasino as they feel a lot of money can eb made from it. (Glasgow seems to be on the very short list but London will get one first as we all know). The Americans who want to buy Stanleys would promote poker quite heavily as they see that there is definetly a market for poker in the UK. They also feel that poker is an intergral part to every casino. Great news in my book.

Aren't Harrahs investing heavily in to China? I saw a report that Macaw (I think it was) will be busier than Vegas in a couple of years time.

I have a property investor friend who lives in and bought land in Macau. It is fair to say he has made out big time now the casino scene has taken off....as China industrialises and the Chinese consumer "westernises" then the disposable income of these billions of potential punters should rise and it is looking a complete goldmine for casino companies who get in

The far east will be a massive market for casinos and poker in the coming years, IMHO. Glad you see you read the right press, Tighty

They did, but when they discovered how badly run the casino division was they ran a mile...
