Bainn seems to be an expert, maybe he can give you some better advice. thumbs up

I'm not saying that there isn't better advice, but in all honesty if you are disconnecting all the time it sounds like the standard problem that this router suffers from (simple google it and you will find loads of problems with the thing) short of pulling it apart and doing some modding on it, there is nothing you can do.

Go here:-

Select your router and use the "install" program.

Maureen

Please dont waste your time with firmware upgrades or other "fixes" on the net - believe me, I tired them all.

It is a design fault pure and simple.

Get rid and get a diff make!!

Agreed i tried every one. Eventually i just bought the Belkin, despite always having Linksys before. It has had no such problems.

Ok ...I think the decision has been made, I have always had a Linkys but like i said my last one did burn out after a few years of hammer, that is why I stuck with the make, and this one has been great up till now, but the disconnection is becoming more frequent, 2 days ago it was just a couple of times during the course of the day, but today it is happening every 15 mins or so...Tx all

I'm not saying you are wrong but if there was a design fault then surely they wouldn't still be selling it?
I've probably not turned mine off in years and have never had a problem, the main problems you get with routers is config errors, i have set up many networks with various routers over the years and if i ever have to go back it is usually because someone mucked about with my settings.
I even had one bloke connecting to next doors router Cheesy

Trust me Ian, i know routers quite well, and how to config them. It is a design flaw, they look nice but they are shit.

Switch router Maureen.

Maureen

My Linksys has days where it drops and drops and drops, I searched on the net and some people put it down to it overheating, so I have turned mine on it's end.  i.e.  flishy flashy lights can no longer be seen and the aerial is pointing straight up.

I haven't had a problem since.

(Apologies if I have gone a bit sideways here, I didn't read the whole thread b4 posting)

P.S.  I dont know a darn thing about wireless routers etc, Flushie put mine in an online shopping basket and then I paid for it!!!  lol

Has someone else recently installed a wireless network nearby? They could be interfering with yours. Just a thought.

Maureen

I had exactly the same problem with my Linksys router (same model).  I solved it a few weeks ago by buying a Netgear one which hasn't dropped a single connection.

FWIW, when it does go you can quickly get it back up and running again by right clicking on the Wireless network icon and selecting 'repair'.  That worked fine for me but it still kicked you out for 30seconds - 1 minute at a time.

However, on a similar theme, one problem I'm having with both routers is to get the desktop and laptop to share files and printers.  It just doesn't want to co-operate.  The most irritating thing is that when I'm in Network Neighbourhood it tells me that I don't have administrative rights on either PC so am not authorised to see the network!  All help appreciated.

Any software firewalls on either machine?

Win XP on both.  Norton Protection Centre running on both with Windows Firewall disabled.
