So, the Freebie Fairy popped in last night & said "hey, you have been invited to take part in the William Hill Grand Prix this year". (Next month in fact). Nonsense, you say. You are right, actually, but lets pretend.

Lovely. But we got an extra wish, too.

We can choose which heat to play. Well, pretend to play. Let's assume there are 8 to a table.

Choose your 7 Opponents from the Invite List below. Give reasons (brief, one-liners ideally) for each player.

The Best Post gets a trip to Cardiff to watch "Live" the filming of one of the Heats, including some legendary hospitality (= beer), & travel expenses, all as guests of William Hill Poker. And you'll meet & mingle with the players, too.

It would be kinda nice if the Winner got an Invite to play, but the Freebie Fairy ain't that daft.

The Invite List is below. Keep your Posts short & sweet - just list the 7 Players, with a brief description alongside of "why", & at the bottom some overall reasons for your choices as a Group. Oh, & if you want, list them in Seat Order, including yourself. A brief summing up of why you chose a particular seat would be cool, too.

I will Post a "sample answer" shortly. The winner will be decided by  - well, I don't really know - make a suggestion as to how we could choose.

If it's successful, we will do the opposite next week - you can choose the 7 players you'd LEAST like on your table!

Here is the Invite List....

Phil Laak USA
Antonio Esfandiari USA
Brian Wilson USA
Robert Williamson III USA
Dave “Devilfish” Ulliott GB
Ram Vaswani GB
Joe Beevers GB
Barny Boatman GB
Ross Boatman GB

Andy Black IRE
Sean Murphy IRE

Here's the idea.

Seat 1 - Jonny Lodden. A super-hero of mine, he's a dream to observe in action, full of weird mannerisms & quirks. THE most aggressive player I'ver ever seen.

Seat 2 - Ben Roberts. Super-Cool. Just the man to slow Lodden down.

Seat 3 - Dave Colclough. Because he's the best, & it's cool to share a table with Dave when he's in form.

Seat 4 - Me. I got those to my right all tied up.

Seat 5 - Peter Roche. Another charismatic player, & I own his Blinds.

Seat 6 - Brian "The Rookie" Wilson,. The table value. (oops...)

Seat 7 - Surinder Sunar. Sheer table presence.

Seat 8 - Thewy - I want him there to keep Lodden under control, & he likes to mess with my Blind from mid-position, & I've got his number.

That table suits me fine - lots of aggression (I go for the sit quietly & Check-Raise every fortnight approach) & I'd fancy myself to finish Top 7 minimum. Well, The Rookie will be out first, surely?

Devil Fish: He could teach me to speak with an American accent

Phill Laak: Because he is the spoon

Roy Brindly: He plays poker like a giraffe doing a limbo

Miicky Wernick: He steals with such dignity

Keith Hawkins: When I bet, He calls

JP: He may have to leave early

Tony G: I want give him a rubdown

Seat 1 - Ross Boatman - I want revenge for him knocking me out of the Victor cup, with 3 left on our STT all in pre flop with my JJ v his 55 grrrrrrrrrrr
Seat 1.5 Me
Seat 2 - Devilfish - Just want to play against him. Simple as that. Been in tourns with him but not at same table.
Seat 2.5 Me
Seat 3 - Sean Murphy - Genuinely nice guy
Seat 3.5 Me
Seat 4 - Robert Williamson eye eye eye, have great respect for his game and would like to see it close up
Seat 4.5 Me
Seat 5 - Harry Demetriou, a very generous guy, and hopefully he would be generous with his chips !!
Seat 5.5 Me
Seat 6 - Andy Black, I would deliberatly turn up late to see if he burst into tears
Seat 6.5 Me
Seat 7 - Antonio Esfandiari, partly because its not someone u would get the opportunity to play very often, and partly to see if i could make his chips "disappear" (bet hes never heard that before!)
Seat 7.5 Me
Seat 8 - Phil Laak, another yank to round the table off, just so there are a couple of targets to wind up about europes CRUSHING ryder cup win this weekend !!
Seat 8.5 Me

Why the .5?     Because I want to be on everyones left !!!!

Brilliant! The early favourite. But be careful, Flushy & Ariston have yet to Post. You KNOW they make sense. Sometimes. Well, now & then. Occasionally?

1. Ram Vaswani....If you want to be the best you have to beat the best. If I am going to be outclassed lets be completely outclassed

2. Keith Hawkins...I need some help with my NFL sports betting and I'm a sucker for baby photos.

3. Julie Thew...the only transexual ever to play poker on television.

4. Me...well the three before me will always be stealing so I can reraise knowing I am ahead. And still lose.

5. Xuyen Pham...just in case she tries to overplay 52 again

6. Steve Vladar. Never plays a hand. Always passes. BB to my button. Perfect

7. JP Kelly. I taught him everything he has forgotten.

8. Brian Wilson. Frankly, useless.

9. Antonio Esfandiari..Where he goes, babes follow. Who knows, one may be desperate.

Brian Wilson USA      Great fun to have at a table and hes a chip getter, so early bath or double through
Joe Beevers GB        Complete gentleman and a rock
Harry Demetriou GB  As above, so can do a bit of blind stealing
JP Kelly GB            Another chip getter, early bath syndrom
Roy Brindley GB     When he gets below 10bb's has a panic and will call raises with rubbish and then bluff out on the flop and gets spanked
Pascal Perrault FRA   The friction for the table, bit of a wild cannon, but played with him in EPT Deauville and had the pleasure of knocking him out, always a good thing
Peter Costa GB     Another solid but wildcard Wink

Then me Smiley

Seat 1: Brian Wilson  --  All around good fun, its never a boring table with Brian about. Plus standard rule, 1st player out deal, he only has to move 1 space Cheesy

Seat 2: Ram -- Sheer Class, would love to see his more silent approach against Brian in pots. Also i would love to see him deal with the raising on his BB from the players in seat 6 7 and 8.

Seat 3: Phil Laak -- The entertainer and reigning champion, how could he not be on the table? I never knew much about him but watching him on HSP he is clearly a very good player, and a lot tighter than he is percieved. My blinds will be safe.

Seat 4: Joe B -- The most likeable mobster, i always enjoy talking to Joe and he would serve as a welcome rest from the noise created by the rest of the table!

Seat 5: Me

Seat 6: JP -- I like a challange! JP owned me in the Unusual Suspects SNG when he had positon on me, i would like another go! A good mate aswell, it would be nice to share obervations on the rest of the table.

Seat 7: Thewy -- I want to see JP get a taste of his own medicine! Also i imagine its quite fun trying to nick yo-yo's blinds!

Seat 8: Lodden -- I want to see Julian gets a taste of HIS own medicine Cheesy The most aggresive guy on the table and reportably the best online player. I have never played on his table but if i were to win the table it would be all the more pleasing if i did so beating Mr Lodden, Mr Thew and Mr Kelly when they all had position on me!!

Thats my table! It would be very loud, full of banter etc. It would also be the most aggresive SNG in the history of the game! Imagine the Vaswani vs Lodden battles!

P.S. I would really love to come to Cardiff Cheesy

Guys, I'm LOVING this, you've got the idea spot-on. Thanks. Oh, & I forgot to say, thanks to William Hill, too.

The Willaim Hill Grand Prix is the BEST Tourney in the world. (There, that should keep them quiet for a few days, then I'll ty & persuade them to give us another Cardiff Package.....)

Ps - How did I know Flushy would make a great Post? Guess he does every few months or so. (Great Post Mr D, really).
