I saw Luke patten on this lastnight, now as i understand he is a pro player, so why was he playing in an amateur tourney?

I tuned in, but didn't like the look of it and went and read abit of my poker book instead.  I prefer shows like high stakes poker and WPT/EPT.

I simply meant if he has other work interests outside of poker, he may not be described as a professional by many.

makes a mockery of the "amature" tournament when they allow pro's or semi pros to run with a soft field.

Luke runs his own successful magazine publishing business. Just happens to be good at poker as well!

He is not a professional player then.  He is just good at poker, very good by all accounts.

I think somebody should try and define what a "pro" is and then they could maybe run tournaments where pros aren't allowed to enter giving the amatuers more of a chance Wink

I'm sure many players would define themselves as "professional".

Luke has won in excess of £150,000 this year.  If his business is going well then it's possible he has taken that much or more in salary.  What if he pays himself £100,000 a month, is he still a professional poker player?

As I said in my first post on this thread, it depends on your definition.  Your definition, Newmanseye, is clearly based on money won.  That may or may not be correct.
