should I have folded this - am i playing too tight?  The action - i.e. calls and bets all happened very fast.  stud isnt a great player. 4splats playing TAG.  something just didn't feel right...

I agree with this however i think that 950 is a lot of your stack so i would make a smaller raise and see what the others do.

you can re-raise here to 750 as it is a good strong bet.  You will still have chips left, and as you don't provide any info on your players (are they very lose or tight and so on) if re-raised you can probably fold.  The other way, depending on your opponents, is to flat call it, and see if there is any betting on the turn.  Very often players tend to bet on the flop and then check the turn if they were on steal.  But all your actions should depend on the style your opponents likely to play. I suspect if any of them had AA/KK they would re-raise you pre-flop.
