You are deep into a MTT.

You make a huge bet on the river and your opponent asks "If I fold, will you show me what you've got?".

What do you answer if you've got a made hand? And what do you answer if you're bluffing?

Then do you show, assuming he passes?

If I had a hand, I'd say sure and show him.  If I didn't, I probably wouldn't answer and then not show.

I should have added... what are your reasons for doing what you do?

He's fishing for info, I don't want him to know any by getting on the wrong side of guessing games.

While it may be tempoting to encourage a call when you've got a lock, I find this leads to people assuming I'm bluffing when I'm quiet. (A very easy tell that even a fish can spot)

I've had this loads of times, i always say yes then muck Cheesy
2 main reasons:-

Firstly i never show, ever in a serious game.
Secondly it will do his/her head in.

Its a preference thing, I know sometimes NAME players show their cards to help tilt an opponent, or show a monster for that matter when some one makes a great fold only to play an opposite hand in the same way to trap either this opponent or another who is watching the action intently.

I say nothing, until he mucks. THEN I may give the speech play just to "get inside his head" a bit.

If they ask me to show while the hand is still in play then i say nothing until after the hand and if they fold i never show the hand. After the hand i may say something along the lines of "sorry, my cards are pay-per-view" if i think maybe i can get him a little on tilt.

If they ask again what i had after the hand i say "can't remember, monkey memory not so good".

The best ones are when they say things like "i know your bluffing, i have you beat" in an attempt to get you to show - as they muck their cards!!

Please tell me you dont do this every time?  dont river me

<Note to self - in tonights blondepoker league tourney just ask Silo if he'll show his cards every pot your involved with him. If he says "sure" fold quicker than a cheap deckchair, if there is silence RERAISE ALL-IN!!  Cheesy
