Apple control the iPod market quite strictly so it's difficult to buy a new one for much below what Apple charge on their website.

If you know anyone who is going to the US soon get them to pick you one up out there - we get done on the exchange rate so that's the best way to get a new, cheaper one.

Firstly if you want to make a fashion statement, get an iPod. (I say fashion statement, to me its akin to wearing a tracksuit tucked into your socks. All the kids seem to do it, but it doesn't say anything desirable about you)

If you want a decent MP3 player, get something else. I recommend creative products, I have a Zen Touch although these are old now, they have newer products.

If you want to see reviews, I recommend searching google. here are a few decent reviews.
http://www.itreviews.co.uk/hardware/hard13.htm
http://www.reviewcentre.com/products18.html
http://www.pcmag.com/category2/0,1874,2359,00.asp

But the best thing to do is flick through the argos catalog or take a trip into Dixons, or search online at ebuyer.com or some site like that. have a look at the different MP3 players. Find ones you like the look of then head back home and search google for their brand names + review. Then you can see what people say.

Remember though, if you are looking for user feedback, the ones you will usually get will be complaints. Because, theres nothing to say if theres nothing wrong is there.

If you are keen on playing poker with your new player, get something with a decent battery life. Apple have fixed the life on their newer products but it used to be the case that they lasted for 4-5 hours maximum. Which is ridiculous and won't last the length of a half decent tournament. My mp3 player goes on continous play for 24+ hours without charging.

I have had my new Creative, the Zen Vision M and I have to say it is stunning.

Sound quality is brilliant, plug and play into a TV for your video, music or pictures, software is brilliant and simple to use, 24+ hours battery life, loads of cool ad ons and gadgets available.  Has won numerous awards and holds up very well against the Ipod range IMO.

This is my second Creative player and I can't recommend them enough (first one was stolen, not broken).

My god I agreed with Mikky - but don't let that put you off.

If you're still after an ipod after all those comments, I believe you get one for free if you buy an iBook at the same time
