It's on my blog, http://blogs.mikkysworld.com

There'll soon be three places in glasgow to play - TonyG's new place, The Riverboat Casino and The Wabash club.

Wabash is on Cumberland St, on the edge of the Gorbals but don't let that put you off Wink If you head across the river from central station down bridge st, cumberland street is on the left just after the hand car wash. Its in an industrial unit, next to some performance car shop with neon lights. It's very basic, toilet facilities, poker tables, and a fire exit being its only plus points!! But it's tournaments are cheap.

If you want more expensive tournaments (and a little more comfort!) head to the Riverboat Casino or wait for this new place.

Oh forgot to add, the Riverboat being a casino is obviously a membership affiar, with the standard 24hours wait. The dress code is casual, often the poker players wear pretty much what they like. Most memebrs will sign you in though if you havent joined in time. You can join on the website though so theres no excuse.

Wabash doesnt have a membership, anyone can come and play.

This new club will be an exclusive members club.

Most people are kind to the newbies, after all - it would get stale without them. Some of the regulars will often chastise others who arent being so nice, simply because the numbers have been slowly dwindling for a wee while and we need fresh blood..

The numbers at the riverboat vary. It has a maximum capacity of 88 players, but we don't get that many any more. Fridays and Sundays tend to be the busiest times, with Thursday nights (beginner night) being a bit of a lottery as the buyins are so cheap.

It has been too quiet lately, there was only 3 tables last Wednesday night, the quietest it's been for a long while :|

Cheers Mikky, i've already got my membership for the riverboat - just didn't know when the tourneys were on. I'll give them a try first, thanks again.

Hello folks,

Just trying to get an update on the opening date for the new card room.  Haven't seen anything regarding this for a while.

Thanks,

Hello,

Ok, just had some information that it will be next door to the Glaswegian Bar in what used to be a Restaurant.  And from what I hear it's opening at the end of this month.. Which isn't far off.  The opening date could be wrong though, I'll try and get more details on that.

Cheers

So does anybody know when this club is likely to be opening?

I walked past the supposed location about a week ago and i couldn't see any sign of anything poker related. The exterior still had all the details of the old greek restaurant and the interior was a bit of a mess but there was signs of work in progress.

Sorry, but I can't see the new room getting off the ground. Poker is caught under the new Gambling Act. It defines gaming/gambling as (amongst other things) "a game that involves an element of chance that can be eliminated by superlative skill" and states that it is an offence to provide facilities for gambling "A person commits an offence if he uses premises, or causes or permits premises to be used, to......provide other facilities for gaming" The good news however is that the maximum sentence is 6 months in Scotland in comparison to 51 weeks in England.

So how does, for example, Gutshot manage to operate, or The Western Club, & countless others?

Not saying you are wrong - you seem well versed in the matter - but presumably there is a loophole somewhere......

I read in Inside Edge this week (picked up a free copy from notts card room) that the police were investigating the gutshot and said they thought it was probably illegal. I was thinking of making a post about it actually.

The Police have ALWAYS thought that Gutshot was illegal.

So the owners of Gutshot said "fine, prove it, you know where we are, we aint hiding, we aint running, come & get us, put up or shut up". And they are still there, still open....as is The Western, & many others.....
