I believe this is the 2.0 official version that has been leaked:

http://releases.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/releases/2.0/win32/en-GB/

the new spell checker is good, just like a word processor - underlines in red as you type!

In every discussion forum I've seen about the new Firefox, people have mentioned this. It wound me up as well - why did they feel the need to change it?

Anyway, allow me to rid you of this curse.

Type about:config into the address bar
Scroll down to browser.tabs.closeButtons
Right-click on it and select Modify
Type in 3 into the box
Begone cursed little tab closing icons

After accidentally clicking one of the Xs i have also changed them.

For the record I found:
0: X on the active tab
1(default): X on all tabs
2: no X on any tab
3: Old style X in the top right.

I went for 2.

Gone back to 1.5 for the time being.  Too many issues with the extensions I use (22 of them).  They will all be updated soon enough for 2.0, but I'll have to miss out on the new good stuff to keep my old good stuff.

 Sad

What extensions do you use mate?

If they're that essential you might have some good ones!
