What is the best way to play AK in a STT when I'm in early position and it's still the early levels?

I keep mucking it up Sad

go all in, or ask Ironside

The very last hand of the night goes to Dewi James, who finds ACES and talks Raymond O’Mahoney into calling his all-in preflop bet of 15k.  “If I had AQ, I’d call!” says Dewi.  Raymond calls holding pocket 66’s.

I like this - if you hit, nobodys going to put you on an AK.

chip stack and blinds levels?

oh turbo- i don't play turbos,

I think you should mix up
raise and limp 75%-25% and see how it goes.  It all depends on the table.

They're $10 Speed 9-seat

In that case, limp re-raise preflop all-in.

Early levels. 20/40 - 50/100. I will just limp and call a raise only. any reraising and i fold (unless i have taken a hit and am a shortie). from 100/200 + i am making raises with it, or pushing, depends on stack to blinds..

In theses low level buyin STTs my records show ridonkulous aggresion quite high +EV
It is quite amusing just how often you get called by far inferior aces and often the Likes of other dominated hands like KQ and KJ.

IOW i often just open push with AK (even at the low blind levels). remember this is not pure poker. Turbo STTs are tactical ventures sometimes about the poker but ften just about shoving your stack at the right time.

In fact I use the Open-Push with AK all the way up to the $50 level in many STTs.

Agreed,

There is no space, with shallow stacks and blinds going fast, for fancy play.  You cam limp, but you should call all in re-raise and you will be majority of the time against inferior hands.

Thanks for all the help everyone. It was one of those hands which I really didn't know how to play early on and in early position and my poker teacher cheekily decided to go out so I couldn't ask him!

I'm not sure about calling a reraise with AK because say I'm UTG and limp. Bob raises, then Jack reraises, by the time it gets round to me I think I'm behind so I'm likely to fold, unless I am shortstacked.

Perhaps I'm just scared of reraises!

In 6 handed turbo stt's I dont think you can afford to fold AK . If you can get to see all of the board cards then you are never that far behind. The raising and calling range in these tournaments is fairly low. you can expect to be ahead a fair % of the time. Don't be afraid to play it for all of your chips at any stage of one of these tournies.
