Went down to Cardiff yesterday for their monthly £250 Freezeout (10,000 starting chips, great structure, 45 min clock).

Travelled down with Red & Chili, arrived with 15 mins to spare.

The Welsh boys are tremendous fun, & it was great to hook up with them all again, especially Doc, & his two quite splendid & beautifully-mannered sons, Martyn, Viv, Mark Williams, James, Matthew Stevens, Roberto & Bro, well, too many names to remember.

We had a little meeting of the blonde Ex-Smokers Club befor the comp started - sofa-king, Chili & myself. We were all quite pleased with our efforts far. Both of them had a pop at me over the  possibility that I may start smoking again at Crimble, but they both know the real score with me & ciggies.

So, the comp starts, & we have a bathroom break after 3 hours.

Suddenly, I'm aware that everyone is stood round in a group, & Mr Manager is bringing out a sort of Birthday Cake - 4 candles, one at each corner, all lit, & they present this to cake to......me!

On the cake is a pic of me - taken at a comp - with a BIG stack of chips (how they find THAT?), and it says at the bottom - "tikay - 4 weeks, NON-SMOKER".

It was all down to James Fisher - aka Sofa-King, aka 23 of spades.

He's truly a lovely fella - handsome he's not - but his heart is in the right place, a real top bloke. Something of a magician too - he was running card tricks on us for hours - extraordinary ones, too.

To everyone at Cardiff - we had a smashing time, & all being well, we will be back this weekend for your Fessie.

Thanks Guys.

Sorry if this is a bit boring, but I like nice stories. I'm an "up person", see?

Sounds like a weak 23 spades to me.  Cheesy

Glad to hear a happy tale.

Very nice story - Congrats on the 4 weeks Tony - Wish I could do the same.

DO NOT let it go to waste!!!!!

Did they auction off who had first go at it with a big carving knife?  Bet they'd have made a fortune!

The cake

Just thought i should explain that stack.

The Grosvenor festival chips are coloured like this 25-Orange, 100-Grey, 500-Green, 1000-Purple. So it was about starting chips!

Mystery solved.

What a nice gesture though, and congrats to Chilli and James aswell.

Was Bono there?

No but better still Matt Stevens was - and those boring spats between any hands at all were made all the more pleasurable for my eyes.  Thanks Matt.
