Democrats kick ass, taking control of the House of Representatives, and the Senate.

Two fOOooOOkin months too late

The Democrats would never have let the Port Securities Act through.

is there any chance of a reversal within the 270 day grace period before it is passed, now that we have a change of control?

Don't think so - it's out of Congress's hands now. Let's face it, the anti-gambling thing was only to drum up support/funding for the Republicans from the anti-gambling Christians for the forthcoming campaign. The Democrats have far bigger things to do now than concern themselves with passing legislation to reverse this relatively unimportant bill.

Apart from them all voting for it you mean? :p

Basically the fact that it was tagged onto the PSA is such a crock of shit, that ability needs to be closed.

Also there are plenty of Republican ex-Congressmen and ex-Senators who will be fuming at Bush for only sacking Rumsfeld today, even though he had clearly decided to do it (and admitted as much in the press conference) a while ago. If he'd sacked Rumsfeld before the election, some of these guys may have kept their jobs.

Of course, that wouldn't have enabled Bush to use Rumsfeld as the scapegoat for everything and deflect the attention away from himself...

indeed...noone was gonna vote against this bill as the PSA was important for them...amending crap to a bill that has nothing to do with the original plan is ridiculous.

no they couldn't, not without looking weak on port security (even though the republicans sold them to dubai lol).

I think the simpsons illustrated it very well when the comet was heading from Springfield and congress voted to safe them...Untill someone stood up and tried to attach an amandment to the bill curbing greenhouse gas emission or something and it got denied.

There are soo many amendments to the constitution that it's basically become a joke.

Any bill about any subject can essentially have amandments attached to it that have nothing to do with it...in fact that's how a lot pay rises for them have been added through the back door...if it's a very important piece of legislation (which only have a certain amount of time in which they have to be passed or they will fail) people will essentially vote for it as it is for the greater good and the little bit of evil attached to it is not considered important enough to hold off the entire bill for another year or so.

It does require interpretation still.

So if the Democrats appoint a few judges, hopefully they'll interpret it favourably - if for no other reason than to annoy the companies that payed for the Republicans to pass it.
