I'm interested to hear what everyone's favourite fights are....

Personally I'll always remember the Nigel Benn-Gerald Mcclennon fight.

The build up was great, Benn one of the representatives of the very strong european middleweight division facing off against Mcclennon, regarded as one of the top pound for pound fighters in the world.

Mcclennon, who had defeated the great RoyJones Jnr as an amateur, came into the fight on the back of 3 1st round knockouts and with a reputation for incredible punching power. Most punters had the young, hungry, american Mcclennon as the favourite for the fight over an ageing Nigel Benn, despite fighting in the UK and stepping up to super middleweight.

Both fighters were power punching, aggressive hitters who were not going to back down and me and my mates were on the edge of our seats with our stellas and doritos as the bell went to start the fight.

Mcclennon came out like a steam train, battered Benn with a volley of powerful combos, and looked like he had just added a fourth consecutive 1st round stoppage to his record as he pummelled benn so hard, he knocked him out of the ring in a mere 40 seconds.  Benn made his way back onto the canvas on a 9 count and continued to be smacked about by Mcclennon for the rest of the round, surviving by the skin of his teeth mainly die to his excellent defensive reflexes.

The rest of the fight was crazy. Benn came back in the 2nd round and started to unload bombs on mcclennon who was probably quite shocked that Benn was still standing after the beating he had administered in round one. The fight proceeded like a rocky film, both fighters throwing constant bombs that were hitting with great accuracy. How the fight went on for ten rounds I'm not sure....

In the 10th round Benn went for one of his classic wild powerful hooks but missed and stumbled forward, his head appearing to make contact with mcclennon's head jsut above the eyebrow. Mcclennon was disturbed by this, though it was unclear how much damage had been done. Benn went on an aggressive burst, hitting mcclennon with some clean punches that forced him to drop to one knee. As Mcclennon took an 8 count he was rubbing his eye with his glove and looked in trouble.

The fight resumed and Benn went on the attack again, hitting mcclennon but then missing with two punches and mcclennon seemed to voluntarily drop to one knee. This time, he didn't get back up as the ref counted him out........Unbelievably Benn had upset the odds and won.....

The aftermath was such a crazy mix of emotion. A jubilant Benn rushed round the ring and was lifted up to shoulder height as he celebrated one of, if not the, best win of his career. Mcclennon lay slumped in his corner and after a minute or two was lain down in the recovery position, clearly in massive trouble.

In the days that followed it became clear how badly Mcclennon had been injured. Permanent brain damage ultimately left him blinded and without 80% of his hearing.

Watching this interview on youtube almost made me cry at how such a powerful warrior had been debilitated.

I really feel this incredible fight showed the very best and very worst of boxing and although I have mixed feelings about nominating it as the best fight I have seen because of the tragic consequences, it is the one that left the biggest impression on me.

Whats your most memorable fight?

Benn-McLellan I cant really watch anymore as when I see McLellan blinking heavily I wonder how the fight was not stopped. It really saddens me.

For me it is Bowe-Holyfield I - although II is excellent also. The first fight was amazing though. I can watch that round where they hit each other for about 20 secs after the bell over and over - even the corners get involved!

Older fights amaze me though. Especially Ali-Frazier fights.

That was a truly brilliant fight, with a truly tragic ending after the fight.

I don't have one favourite, but the ones that are truly memorable (for different reasons):

Naseem Hamed v Kevin Kelly
Micky Ward v Aturo Gatti (one and two)
Antonio Barrera v Eric Morales (one)
Ricky Hatton v Kosta Tzyu
Marvin Hagler v Thomas Hearns
Julio Cesar Chavez v Meldrick Taylor (one)
and all the Eubank/Benn/Collins fights.
Tyson when he was awesome in the ring (used to get up at 3am to watch his fights with my Dad, and the ring walk would usually last longer than the fight!).

They're the fights that I saw when they happened, rather than those memorable fights that were before my time, (e.g. Ali, Conte, etc.) and those where I was too young to remember them at the time (Leonard v Hearns, Leonard v Duran, etc.).

Yeah the  gatti ward fights were amazing.

Arturo was class, his face always ended up puffing up like a balloon against good fighters becuase he'd get hit so much but he would never quit and usually came back to win.

I was sad when pretty boy bust him up.

How about Golota Bowe where Golota, comfortably ahead on points, stupidly got himself disqualified by relentlessly smacking Bowe in the nuts, which led to a riot.

I remember sitting there with my mate watching people whacking each other with chairs on sky sports thinking WTF is going on!!!!

Not the best fight but very funny.

I first saw Sugar Ray Leonard when he fought Dave Green, & was impressed with the way Sugar Ray destroyed him.

At the time I really disliked Duran ( he was just a thug - I thought ) & was looking forward to the Leonard / Duran fight.  Then when Leonard tried to take Duran on at his own style, & nearly managed it, I learnt new resect for both of them.

But the rematch was the most special fight I have ever seen.

Leonard decided to fight his own style, not play into Duran's hands.  And he destroyed Duran, as much as he had  Green.  It proved what a great boxer he was.  Duran couldn't lay a glove on him, so much so, that he just gave up & turned away.  Duran could take any physical punishment thrown at him, & it wouldn't slow him down.  But Leonard beat him up mentally, so badly that he couldn't take any more.  I've always prefered boxers with brains, rather than just brawn & bravery. It keeps boxing as a sport, where skill is equal to strength.

Sugar Ray Leonard was the greatest 'sportsman' in boxing in my lifetime.  He could out think anyone.  He could out move anyone.  He couldn't quite outpunch anyone, but he could give & take one hell of a dig.

I never saw Ali in his prime, but I reckon that it would be difficult to prove one way or the other which was the best pound for pound boxer.

that was a brilliant account of that fight junglecat.

I remember it so vividly, particularly When they were interviewing Benn afterwards and in the heat of the moment he said he didn't care what happened to mclelland, something like 'they brought him over here to beat me up and i showed him'. It was an awseome fight with a terrible ending so i don't like to rememeber it to often.

couldn't name a favourite but some of my favourite fights haven't been the most visually entertaining but have been british fighters who i have followed from their early days through to fighting for world titles - hatton v tyzu for one had me totally gripped and when it looked like he might have worn him down enough to win i was screaming him on to finish it off.
