so after returning home from shooting some pool at about 11:00pm i realise i only have 6 cigarettes left. i pre-registered for the 15k on tribeca and did nowt.
I got pokerstars up and running and played a few stt's on there as well as entering the $20+2 deep stack nl comp. Now this started 3 hours ago and ive fluked a few pots and i am currently about 18/200 left with 22k and blinds still at 100/200. Only problem, apart from having to possibly stay up until 9:00am to win max of $2.7k is that ive run out of ciggies, and the taxi drivers that i usually ask to pick me some ciggies up have decided not to co-operate. grrrrrrr.

So what im thinking is that if i can play poker for potentially another 7 hours and not have a ciggie then i can just quit forever as i am 22 and smoke 40 a day at present. I am really trying in this tourney now as if i win i can say, the night i quick the death sticks i won a tourney.

Im nt using patches or hypnotism or any of that crap, just old fashioned will power. Wish me luck

Smoking is VERY bad for you...you have already gained so many years

Good luck with the game Rick and even more luck giving up...you are young and if Tikay can do it then you will look a right woss if you fail.

I have also been thinking about it.

I started smoking when i was about 17 and up until this year I used to go on holiday to Spain and bring back a years supply but this year it did not happen.

It REALLY burns me up to pay nearly £5 a packet so I too have been seriously thinking about packing up.

SOOOOOOOO Im going on Amazon RIGHT NOW...Im going to order Allen Carrs book and my plan is to give up at midnight on New Years Day.

As I need to go to docs anyway I will ask for patches coz i need all the help I can get.

Anyone else want to try?

Do it!

Suzanne, & Action Man - it's EASY.

I will PM Decider & Chili about this, & you can join our "beat the smoking curse" Team.

But NO PATCHES or similar rubbish - that is NOT the way to go.

PM me if you think I can help.

Nemesis & Decider, together with Chili, helped me do it, so I'm gonna do my bit now.

SMOKING SUCKS!

It's a great start when you actually know you want to stop. You don't need to use nicotine replacement to beat the nicotine addiction, you just have to convince yourself that you are doing the right thing and your mind will take over. The Allen Carr book is excellent for helping you achieve that frame of mind, but you can help yourself by trying to get into that frame of mind anyway. Think positively, there is absoultely nothing to lose, it's all GAIN.

I'm a couple of days short of 3 months without a single puff and I'm loving it, you guys can do it too.

Following the success of Tikay, Chili, The Tank, Sofa-king, CelticGeezer and the others.. sorry if I have missed out any names, it really is time to abandon the sinking ship and take control back. You will be healthier and wealthier for it, and not to mention very proud of yourself.

Hope this thread is the start of another successful group of ex-smokers.

Cheers,

Eoan

How you get on Actionman?  Regardless of what happened in the early hours, are you giving it a bash?

I've been there deep in a  multi with no fags.....I remember one time I reached the break of the 15k and had run out of cigs.

It was a mile and a half to the shops and I had decided already i was gonna run to the shop as it looked like i was going deep. I reckoned I could do the 3 mile round trip in 12 minutes or so, roger bannister stylee and just miss half of a level.  As soon as the hand was folded, my journey began and i moved into top gear, legging it out of my door and down the road.

It was almost slow motion. It was amazing! I was doing it!

I could hear the chariots of fire theme tune in my head as my legs pumped like an athlete in his prime.

Then about 50 seconds in, the stylus came off with a loud squeal as lungs bursting with a huge stitch i was forced to stop. I stood there, hands on knees, red faced , panting like a dog and thought "fu** it ill walk".  I briefly noted the irony of not being able to run for cigarettes due to my tar filled lungs. 40 minutes later I got back to my multi to find myself marked away and the non smokers assaulting my blinds with glee.

Do it Rick. It will be harder and harder to maintain that finely honed figure we've all seen unless you give up Wink

Seriously dude, kick the cigs into touch. GL mate and hope you did well in the deep stacks

So you will be gagging without any "mental" help.  I know people harp incessantly on about Allen Carr, and you should have heard what Tikay had to say about his book before and during reading it, but try reading it before you torture yourself with the "will power" method.

In anyhow, good luck to you mate.  It sounds to me that you will immensely benefit from the FREEDOM of not being hooked!
