I wanted to be Gerald Durrell, or at least to work with him, he's the one of my "I want to meet him/her and thank them" list who's gone & I wish I'd went to Jersey and found him and said thanks for the inspiration before he passed away - he was imortal to me though.

Midfield general for Queens Park Rangers.

Most kids wanted to be a star striker. But that meant too much running about for my liking. So I wanted to pull the strings in midfield.

This is the sort of question your Mum will ask you when you're very small and don't know any better. She will refrigerate this information in her head, and store it till years later, when she needs more material to embarrass you in front of your friends. I was foolish, I told her the answer.

Armed with this, my Mum was driving by the local one day, and said I should go in and ask about joining the police force. I got out of the car, walked up to the door, but chickened out at the last minute and ran back to the Montego.

"I didn't think they would have much use for a police boy of five." I sheepishly told my mother.

Wasn't long before I lost interest in that particular line of work, and moved onto what is a far more socially acceptable vocation for a toddler, train driving.

I wanted to be Keith Edwards or Colin Morris, I can't remember many better days than watching these two strut their stuff on a Saturday afternoon at beautiful Bramall Lane.

He inspired a lot of people, if I was to give a kid any set of books his would be the ones. I was lucky enough to have a childhood where I learned and experienced a lot about wildlife. I wasn't strong enough to dedicate my life to nature though.

Ah, the free role just behind the front two.....I remember Graeme Souness telling a story about managing in Portugal. During his first meeting with his new squad he asked them all what their favourite position was and 20 players from a squad of thirty said' just behind the front two in a free role'

"Beautiful" and "Bramall Lane" aren't two phrases often seen in the same sentence.

I used to want to read the weather. Sadly a geograhy degree wasn't enough, in hindsight I had to do meterology and was too far in when I decided that would be ideal.

In hindsight I think not being an attarctive female is a problem!

Didn't stop Michael Fish or John Kettley.

You should have tried a bit harder!
