darts is actually a very rare sport in that it is entirely skill, no room for error at all.

Which is why someone is able to completely dominate it for so long - you can't 'get lucky' to beat Phil Taylor. The only way to beat him is to play better than him. Same with Federer, except that you may be able to catch him on a day when he's not completely fit (like Andy Murray did a few months back). That doesn't work with darts though, except for the exact opposite when Taylor blamed a defeat on being too fit (he'd lost weight and said it had affected his balance)

A minimum of 72 points in a mens grand slam game - more likely to be more than double that - one piece of luck really doesnt outweigh the effect of not needing to be at your best to win.


Plus you are forgeting the luck of a cannon off the flight into the double to win!

The explanation is that when the term "World's Championship Series" was first used in the 1880s, baseball was almost exclusively confined to North America, especially the United States, at a high level. Thus it was understood that the winner of the major league championship was the best baseball team in the world. The title of this event was soon shortened to "World's Series" and later to "World Series".

The New York World, established in 1860 did used to report on the series games in the Championship series but were never official sponsors.

They did toy with the idea of allowing teams from other leagues around the world to participate, especially countries that used to have american forces on their soil but logistically in those days it was a non-starter and so whoever was crowned champion of America was regarded as the best team in the world (and despite baseball becoming popular in many latino countries and places like japan - the american teams still would come out on top)
