Many bands achieve greatness in their careers, but who had the greatest debut album.

I'll throw some of my choices out there

Pearl Jam - Ten

Their best album. Relistened to it recently after a while without hearing it and I don't feel it has aged or been diminished by time even slightly.

Oasis - Definitely maybe.

Their best album. Chock full of classics

Rage against the machine - RATM

Their best album. Remember their UK TV debut on "the word" like it was yesterday.

Not necessarily the best, but a few of my favourite debut albums:

Pixies - Surfer Rosa

Gomez - Bring It On

Portishead - Dummy

Fun Lovin' Criminals - Come Find Yourself

Led Zeppelin - Led Zeppelin

Artic Monkeys - Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not.

The Beatles - Please please me!

Each of these are superb debut albums. You could listen to them again and again, and they still sound as fresh as the first time you heard the.

Artic Monkeys - Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not.

This is one I just don't understand.  I've tried and tried to like this album, but I grew up on the Indie music of the late 80s/early 90s and it sounds like a lot of the stuff that didn't quite make the grade back then.

If they'd been around in circa 1990ish they'd have made it as far as being a support band for someone, no more than that.  If that's the best album that 2006 had to offer (and the NME says it is) then it was a pretty shit year.

The Foo Fighters debut album is also brilliant, as is the Stereophonics' 'Word Gets Around'.

Some of the singles are very good, but on the whole I was also disappointed with the album.  Probably because it was so overhyped.  Nothing that special, but not bad.

The Strokes - Is this It

I quite like the Monkeys album but it is well overhyped and for me, definately not the album OTY.  That award would go the latest Muse album.

Was going to say about the Foo Fighters too and I quite agree with all the other albums posted so far.......except the UB40 one lol Cheesy

Damn, I was wondering why the Tribecca 20k hasn't loaded up for me and I'm not registered Sad Could have sworn I was.

being a big Wonderstuff fan, I'll have to mention 8 Legged Groove Machine.  Also Janes Addiction and Primal Screams first albums are damn fine bit of music.

More to follow, better concentrate on those tournies I am in!

Not worldwide.  Whitney - by Whitney Houston has that title.
