push it in now. Without player notes his range includes TPTK, flush and straight draws, two pairs, overpairs in addition to the offchance he might have the straight/set already

Make him pay the max to hit most of the hands his range suggests he needs to hit

if it is set vs set or set vs straight so be it

Why? If a scare card comes on the turn and we are ahead, he slows down. I think he has AA-JJ, so half the time you get stacked and the other half you're a huge favourite.

Fair enough but i think his range is much wider than JJ+. My thinking was just that he would fire again on the turn, thereby pretty much commiting himself to the pot.

Surely you wanted/expected him to raise when you bet out?

Because he raised pre-flop, and has re-raised your flop bet his most likely holding is AA/KK of course

It's almost guaranteed that he's not going anyway if you push it in now. (Give a convincing drawn out pause, before throwing the lot in. Smiley )

There are probably 18 cards that could slow him down on the turn; any 8, T, K, J, or Q.

Re-raise all-in on the flop.

Cheers guys.  I thought the right thing to do was to get my chips in - I didn't think I should be throwing my set away here.

He hadn't been playing anything out of the ordinary, just ABC poker really - so I pretty much knew he had a pocket pair TT-AA, and was hoping he didn't have JJ or QQ.

I got lucky.

Set over set is always horrible ... but in turning quads, I think you have found the answer that we all strive for Cheesy

It did ruin the suspense though...I'd have preferred the case nine on the river.  Grin

The other fella took it pretty well too.  I obviously apologised (whilst shouting who's your daddy at the screen, and waking the wife up in the process), and he said it was just one of those hands.

Nice to be on the receiving end of the draw-out every once in a while though.

A very good point.  But I agree, I think you're sick...
