Nothing wrong in speech play - as long as it is not insulting.
There is no difference (imo) to speech play, and trying to give off false tells.
Both of which I happen to think work on SOME people, but not all.
Im all for it.

I got complaints about my sing play at Bolton, even said I was out of tune WTA

The very last hand of the night goes to Dewi James, who finds ACES and talks Raymond O’Mahoney into calling his all-in preflop bet of 15k. “If I had AQ, I’d call!” says Dewi. Raymond calls holding pocket 66’s.

Something puzzles me too...at my local haunts I can say anything except declare my ACTUAL hand
So if someone asks me, "have you got Aces", and I have, its ok to lie and say no but not to double bluff and say "yes"
If I do, my hand can be declared dead
This one is so badly thought out. If your answer HAS to be a lie, you may as well have a silence rule instead? What is the point (when your opponent knows you HAVE to be lying or maybe lose the pot) in saying I have AK or I have a small pair? It is just information given away for free. Either you can talk about your hand or you can't. Having a rule that you can talk as long as it is a lie doesn't help one way or the other.
Personally I think speech play should go, but a line drawn on the Hollywood brigade that go into it every bleedin hand.

If you have ever sat at a table with Roberto Ramanello you would be a fan of speech play. The guy is superb. Hours of entertainment.

I love speech play - as long as it is good banter. It makes for a much more fun and interesting game.
I think it's a great addition to the psychological part of the game if you allowed to talk someone off a hand or talk their chips into the pot.
I also like my opponents to speech play as it gives me more information about their hand.

one particular instance comes to mind
mr young an cocky goes all in before me....
I wasnt intending playing my pair of 4's at all especially as he was utg and i was on his left..but it was shorthanded...
so i am just delaying a lil ready to muck, when he says "muck em i have a high pair"....
now i dont know whether he got me angry or i had a feeling i was ahead, but i called he had JK os and i knocked him out
as he stands up he berates my call " terrible play,i told u i had u beat and u called!!"
I didnt say anything as it prob was a dodgy call
but the thing is if he has said nothing and came over all mysterious i would for sure have folded
goes to show speechplay can backfire quite easily
