If you have ever sat at a table with Roberto Ramanello you would be a fan of speech play. The guy is superb. Hours of entertainment.
Try a table with Simon Nowab and Paul Parker - classic stuff!!!
In bolton we had a table that was Paul, Simon, Nick Slade and myself, muchos banter.

Regarding speech play, there should be no boundaries on what you are entitled to say, this does not include insults as they have nothing what so ever to do with the art of speech play.
When you are governed by what you can or cannot say i.e your specific two cards, there becomes a grey area in whether you have crossed the line regarding certain rules.
If you allow anything to be said, including saying you have AA if indeed you have then it is upto your opponent if he thinks you are telling the truth or not. In allowing anthing goes its far more simpler

I got complaints about my sing play at Bolton, even said I was out of tune WTA
One assumes it was a very short song.

Something puzzles me too...at my local haunts I can say anything except declare my ACTUAL hand
So if someone asks me, "have you got Aces", and I have, its ok to lie and say no but not to double bluff and say "yes"
If I do, my hand can be declared dead
This one is so badly thought out. If your answer HAS to be a lie, you may as well have a silence rule instead? What is the point (when your opponent knows you HAVE to be lying or maybe lose the pot) in saying I have AK or I have a small pair? It is just information given away for free. Either you can talk about your hand or you can't. Having a rule that you can talk as long as it is a lie doesn't help one way or the other.
Personally I think speech play should go, but a line drawn on the Hollywood brigade that go into it every bleedin hand.

That's not speech play - that''s sheer comedic genuis! I'd pay to sit at a table with either of those two, though it must be said, Chubbs is a nightmare opponent, impossible to place on a hand, & probably world-class as a player when he takes it seriously.

My only issue with Speech play is where people do who are not involved in the hand!!
I had an Omaha game recently where I had a very Sneeky nut straight on a seemingly inocuous board, where I guessed my opponent must have trips of some sort. I raised and just as my opponent was going to reraise the mouthy guy not involved pre-emted my reraiser, with full details of the possible sneeky straight.
He called I won but not as much as I should of
(so not a 50p post I believe)

EPT rules:
Verbal declarations regarding your own hand are not binding and commenting on the possible contents of an opponent's hand is allowed for the purposes of the televised tournament. However this only applies to players involved in the hand and not to players who have already passed their hand.
If poker is to attract more TV/Sponsorship/added value.......then the more "entertaining" it can be (within reason!),the better.
