Hotel news

Sadly there is a complication because the event weekend clashes with the Carling Cup Final at the Milenium Stadium

This will between Chelsea/Wycombe and Spurs/Arsenal so a sell out there is fairly assured

I am advised that hotel rates are already high, however the football  finalists are not settled until AFTER the ticket buying date for this event

It may be an idea to book roooms now, allowing plenty of time to cancel should you not get a seat and know you have certainty of accomoadtion should you get that seat...

In the meantime we'll chase that hotel deal with Grosvenor, but it looks less possible now

i know you guys are doing your best but if possible can you give us 5 weeks from conformation of a place to the date of the event

this point is perfectly understood

this time it was a long negotiation with a major venue provider that limited our ability to give masses of notice but having Grosvenor hosting an event should be excellent long term news for all APAT members, for example with the possibility of regional qualifying in Series Two .

We did though put the event back towards the end of the month to help as much as possible

Entry to the Welsh Amateur Poker Championship will be open exclusively to members of APAT, and tournament seats will be allocated in the following way:-

•   Ten seats will be available via two online satellites on PokerStars.com.  The $10 + $1 tournaments will run on January 21st and 23rd at 8.00pm.  Registration will open 24 hours before the event and the top five players in each satellite will win a guaranteed seat in Cardiff plus the balance of available prize money for expenses.  The satellites can be found under Tourney / Special on the PokerStars.com client from this coming weekend.

Does this mean that APAT members who have just paid for the online subscription can play in the online satellite for a seat into the "live" main event and claim the prize even if they havent paid for a "full" subscription?

yes Matt

Will the online satellites be password protected to avoid non-APAT members from playing? If so when will we find out the password for Sundays tourney? I received an email this morning that gave me the password for the Middle Eastern open (although i could have guessed it anyway Cheesy) but there was no mention of a password for the satellite.

What happens if someone wins money in an online APAT event or wins a seat in an online APAT satellite without being a member because "they got the password off a mate"?

It is a fact of life that in the age of forums, MSN etc that any password sent out to hundreds of members can be passed on by anyone unscrupulous.

I expect, even though there has not been an issue so far, we need to take things to the next level of password security before long.

Thats why i asked - am surprised that there hasn't yet been anyone cash in an online tourney on stars who isn't an APAT member (maybe we're all very honest) but i wondered what steps the APAT would take if someone were to finish top 3 in an online APAT tourney or wins a seat into the "live" event when they aren't a member.

(just for when i bubble in 6th on sunday in the satellite i can still live in hope that one of the top 5 turns out to be illegible!! Cheesy)

If there are concerns about password security, it might be worth having a word with Stars about issuing tickets instead (like they did for the online forum challenge thingy)?  Or is that just for freerolls?

I was more pointing out how rover's post makes no sense, there should be merge of live and online within the APA tour, its the whole bloody point of the APAT!

Actually, the 'whole bloody point of APAT' was to give people like me, who don't live anywhere near a casino, the affordable chance to play against good players in a proper environment by way of a gentle and friendly introduction.
I can play online satellites til the cows come home, but that won't help me to become accustomed to casinos.

That might make no sense to you, but it does to me.

If the tournament has been arranged for the same weekend as the Carling Cup Final then expect every hotel to be twice its normal price!!
