Forest Whitaker as Amin is sensational.
As for the film I greatly enjoyed it. Personally I was not a fan of the "love interest" scenes between the Doctor and one of Amin's wives which I thought were unneccesary and not especially beleivable but as long as Whitaker is on the screen giving a performance as great as that I can forgive the film most things!
Doing my research afterwards (I love films that prompt me to expand my knowledge afterwards) I was fascinated to read about Amin's medical condition that made him delusional and unpredictable. Whitaker captured this excellently

I agree with you Rich, the love scenes and interest didn't add that much to the film but as you said the guys portrail of Amin made up for it.
I think what really blew me away was this guy has been in many low budget/average films before and then gave a peformance like that.

No Bobby, your wrong mate, he has been in films that he has choosen himself m8. I have long been a big fan of Forest Whitaker after seeing him in Good Morning Vietnam and The Colour of Money. He has always been a great actor who has thrown everything into his roles despite his eye condition and bulky weight. Fantastic Film and one that interested me, as alot of the persecuted people of Uganda ended up in Leicester and l have listened to lots of them and there terrible stories.

I didnt say he hadnt chosen them himself, i said some of them were low budget, as you also point out some of them were not.

I want to see this movie, I have read a lot about the subject. I think he stands a good chance of an Oscar from all the reports I have heard, however Will Smith was great in 'Pursuit of Happiness' and also Leonardo DiCaprio in 'Blood Diamond'

erm..the pursuit of happYness? that about says it all, doesn't it?
Forest whittaker will surely get the best actor for this. I haven't seen a performance this good in ages.

and I will say it quietly but DiCaprio acted Damon off the screen in The Departed too
Fortunately Damon has The Bourne Ultimatum and The Good Shepherd coming soon. Apparently The Good Shepherd sees him give a good performance.

The Good Shepherd is on Horneris' site. Good movie. Matt Damon is a top class actor, I am still not sure he was best choice to play Lance Armstrong though ( rumored)
Leonardo DiCaprio is a really good actor, if you compare his performance in 'The man in the iron mask' to his recent films, it is like watching two different actors. His accent in 'Blood Diamond' was excellent

Forest Whitaker has always been great value, from Good Morning Vietnam to the Crying Game, to Ghost Dog.
Even when the film itself hasn't been great (e.g. Pret-A-Porter), he's
always
watchable.
Looking forward to this one...

Awesome performance, all the more so because Season 4 of The Shield has Glenn Close in it, and she was superb... and just when you're wondering how they're going to top that, in walks Forest Whitaker!
As Flushy would say, "he's a legend"
