Then i found the answer? its cheaper to quit the UK!!!!!
So here i am on a little island in the South China Sea, Cigs 23p for 20 (Malboro), McDonalds Meal 33p Diesel 26p per Ltr
Oh, and my 3 bedroom beach house, swimming pool cost 6K!!!!! Temp mid/high 80s every day (life is not so bad)
What do i miss? LIVE POKER.
Good Luck people, Be happy
I read this & I'm intrigued (mainly because I dream of getting out of this country to somewhere with nice weather). Could you tell us more about where you live? Is playing poker online legal? How much would it cost to go to Oz for some live poker? Can you get to Macau (the new Vegas we're told) easily?
Go on - make me sick with Jealousy & tell us about it please.

I've often wondered if some of the online poker pros have ever considered going somewhere a bit more exotic/cheaper/warmer to live for a bit. If there's no ties to the UK, why not! I'd give it a go myself if the missus, daughter, business, family and mortgage could be accommodated somehow

That sounds close to heaven. However I fear I would weigh 19 stone and have a serious lung disorder within 6 months of living in that environment.

Why would anyone eat McDonalds while living on a island surrounded by sea full of tasty fish?

I decided to quit the UK in Sept 2006, with no real plans as to where i was heading, so i jumped on a plane and landed in Manila, (Philippines).
Once here, booked into Hotel, and scoured the internet for somewhere that looked nice.
Found a place, San Fabian, North Luzon, that looked like a dream, so headed for there. (4 hour drive from Manila, £10 in a taxi!!!!!!)
On arrival in San Fabian i stayed in a Hotel, until i found a suitable property, (1 day) 3 Bedroom beach house, swimming pool, £6K!!!! (not a typo error). I have a maid £6 per week, and a driver £8 per week. (thats above the average pay).
The Philippines is a beautiful country, and beautiful people, very poor, and also very corrupt, but thats the way it is here.
Read the daily papers, shootings every day (politicians, police etc), kidnappings, in the area i am 1 businessman shot dead and next day a policeman shot seriously injured.
A normal working person house consists of wood surrounds, corrugated iron for the roof, the area i am in is predominately filipino(ie no/very few english/americans which is what i was looking for)
It is normal for the local people to queue at my gate each day, asking for help with payments for medicines etc!!!
Hopefully in time i hope to invest in some business here to help the locals properly.
Online gambling is legal here, and live poker is taking off very slowly (mainly in the cities)
I dont live on Mcdonalds lol, was just trying to put a perspective on things.
The main thing i have noticed here is that people have time for each other, always smiling always very polite, and materialistic things (because not affordable) are not high on the agenda. Something i felt we had lost sight of in the UK.
Do i have any regrets? On the whole no. i left the UK for personal reasons, a decision i have to live with, so the ony thing now is to look forward to the FUTURE.

I used to live in SEA and spent a lot of time in the Philippines - a great place with a lot of good memories for me. I hope that everything works out well for you.

interesting post taximan, sounds like your settling in well, hope it works out for you, & good luck.
i've also considered living abroad, but probably in Europe, & then for only part of the year, but at the moment family & business make this difficult at the moment.

Cheers Taximan - sounds good.
Don't start a business - start a poker school, get the cleverest kids online & earning, with a share for the infrastructure & a share into a common winning pool.
