N/P: NOD32 vs Spyware Doctor
«

Hi Guys and Gals,
I cannot remember how many peeps I have given Anti Virus software to, so I felt that I should start a thread about this "conflict."
NOD32 has found Malware within the Spyware Doctor programme and to counter act this Spyware Doctor has basically lied and has issued another "false positive" regarding the NOD32 software, which basically means if you did or you have done a recent scan with Spyware Doctor, it would prompt you to un-install or delete NOD32 - which is
very bad
advice.
What you should do is keep NOD32 and uninstall Spyware Doctor and use
AVG Anti Spyware
+ others instead.
WALOB, eh?
Edit: Update for Case #13082 - "Spyware Doctor and NOD32"

Is it a good idea to use both NOD32 and AVG together?

Most definitely.
Bongo recommended it to me a few months ago - and he is like a Geek God in some places!

So you are giving the Spyware Doctor the big thumbs down now? I have it so I should take it off my computer? Any view on the spyware software that comes with Zone Alarm (I use this as my firewall/anti virus)?

edit:
Marco, I have never used Zone Alarm Pro. I only use their free firewall.

Thanks again, Nem.
I must admit, I did have a panicky fit yesterday when I saw Spyware Doctor detect 117 threats on my system, just after updating NOD32
I didn't know enough about the warring security firms not to trust SD and so NOD got deleted, only natural since I've had SD for longer.
I guess I'll have to switch things around again, when I get a spare moment.

Sorry Nemesis, have been away or i would have replied earlier.
Sandboxie was mentioned in Eset's Threat Centre -Blog section:- (Social sites and their risks)
I'll just quote the relevant section - have a proper read if it is of interest . I would be interested in your opinion.
If you use community sites, I’m not saying not to make friends, but take your time before you accept links to other web sites, or are convinced to download or sign up for anything. The bad guys don’t want to spend hours getting to know you – there are easier targets.
When I went to this specific web page it automatically launched a video! I’m sure glad I run Firefox and IE in SandBoxIE (
www.sandboxie.com
). If the video exploited a vulnerability I could have had become infected with all kinds of bad programs that could steal my passwords or other information on my computer.
Virtualization technologies, such as SandBoxIE are a great compliment to Anti-virus solutions. Neither stop everything, but virtualization can protect sensitive data, and if something bad was installed it will be gone when I empty the sandbox.
Surf safe. Remember, the community web sites are a masquerade party. You do not really know who’s behind the mask and their intent.

Speaking of virtualization i'm thinking of switching to Linux and using it to let me run windows in a window for when I need to run a windows program (mainly poker sites tbh).
Have you tried sandboxie?
