How will this be a deterrent? Are APAT going to announce it in a newsletter?

Yes.

i have to say that this is a side of internet poker. If you don't like it you always have the option of not playing on the internet ir turning the chat box off. I hope all d1cks like this guy get there chat taken away but there will be up and coming keyboard warriors on every site.  My advice is try not to be too sensitive and feel sorry for the players who post this as they obviously haven't had the upbringing we have and feel that their actions are acceptable

Yes, this IS Internet Poiker, & yes, some of us are used to it, & can handle it.

That does not make it correct.

It was a Female, not a "guy", by the way.

An announcement will be made on www.apat.com tonight telling members what has happened and emphasising the standards we expect at both our live tournaments and in Online series games.

I hate to say it, but I have heard pretty foul/aggressive language at live events and the staff rarely if ever even get to the 'verbal warning' point, let alone get them chucked out of the tournament.  This is a doubly unfair analogy, as there is no 'turning off the box' when a live event player calls someone a "c***" (which I have seen, and, as a dealer, been called).

You don't have the physical record of what has been said in live poker.

If you have the tools, why not use them. Your lawnmower won't help on the living room carpet, but this shouldn't stop you mowing the lawn if you want to.

Firstly I posted my comments on here merely as a little bit of a rant because I got annoyed at what someone had said to me. I was not 'really upset' as was said in a previous post, just annoyed and aggrieved that someone would say these things, especially when there is a good chance of us sitting on the same table in an APAT event. They said some innapropriate comments, but in the grand scheme of things, maybe they weren't the worst insults. There have been many things said that are worse; this I agree. All that being said, I was not happy with the comments, and I think the APAT have taken action for the better, and for this I thank them.

This has avoided a possible awkward situation, where by I am sitting at a table in a live APAT event with the person who made the insults against members of my family.

I don't think the person who said the things would of said them to me over a table, and if indeed they did, there would be action taken. So why shouldn't action be taken when it is from behind a computer screen. If I turn my chat off, this doesn't stop the insults, it merely stops me from seeing them.

People should not put up with any insults, why can't we win/lose or just participate in a graceful manner, and respect all the other competitors. I know not everyone is like this and do dish out insults, but it should be reported and action taken, then hopefully people will stop hurling abuse and insults.

It's very difficult to eradicate this sort of bahaviour, but that's no reason not to try! And in APAT events, we certainly will.

Smply mad, NO, its not too severe. This would not be acceptable in a live event so why should it be acceptable for some person to hide behind their computer and do it!?

I hate to say it, but I have heard pretty foul/aggressive language at live events and the staff rarely if ever even get to the 'verbal warning' point, let alone get them chucked out of the tournament.  This is a doubly unfair analogy, as there is no 'turning off the box' when a live event player calls someone a "c***" (which I have seen, and, as a dealer, been called).

It would be great if in all aspects, all players kept civil tongues and never raged at one another.  However, this is unrealistic, always will be, and a chat-ban is a more sensible option than a wholesale out-the-door ban.   You are, however, sending a very clear message with this punishment, and if the point was to instil the fear of elimination in potential troublemakers you've probably managed it.

This doesn't solve the wider issues of 'chat-box abuse' however, just the smaller arena of the APAT.  Turn it off or ignore the offender, I still say.

Jen says......

If the foul & aggressive behaviour you refer to at Live Tourneys occurred in an APAT Live Tourney, we would penalise the Member immediately. You are correct to say that others don't do it, but APAT most certainly would.

Someone else said "too severe". That's subjective, but we think it's right. We did refund her Membership Fee in full, so she is no worse off, she just can't do APAT Events any more. We can manage OK without each other.

APAT, with the help of our sponsors, are adding a whole load of money - almost $100,000 in Season One I believe, no Reg Fees so far, players are treated by us with respect, the Tourneys run exactly to advertised times, there are free buffets at every Event, and generally, the players create a terrific atmo. That's the idea, & we will do whatever it takes to ensure our Members have a good time. Which does not include, no matter how many times someone says "just ignore it", being verbally abused.

Fair play on the stance taken. There is winding a player up eg calling a player a fish and there is crossing the line with unacceptable chat. Looks like this one has crossed the line and will pay the price.

Ok, though you are setting yourself a tough standard to live by.
I do commend it, though I personally have considered the chat box to be "make believe".
perhaps being used to something does not make it okay.
I certainly have been guilty of whinging...though nothing more offensive than "you lucky fish".

Curious though when in the APAT online tourney a few weeks back with 10 players left (points bubble).
A guy lost his internet connection and was fairly low stacked too.
JD Force announced in both tables chat windows that everyone should fold to blinds till he blinded out.

Collusion allowed but not bad beat chat box rage?

nothing wrong with tough standards, as we are we hope a force for change if needed.

Of course collusion is not allowed in any APAT online or live event, but if it is not reported to us and/or the online room at the time with specific information then we are going to struggle to do much.

Yes, but we get no points for ducking the issue, so we'll have a go.

I reported it to Stars, they say they warned him.
Funnily enough it was all he said they would do.
But history now.

Harsh, but if everyone took your stance poker would be nicer.

I always think this...if you're getting grief...you're getting lucky / winning....I could do with some more grief lol.
