The very last hand of the night goes to Dewi James, who finds ACES and talks Raymond O’Mahoney into calling his all-in preflop bet of 15k.  “If I had AQ, I’d call!” says Dewi.  Raymond calls holding pocket 66’s.

First player I can remember being was Charlie George. Used to celebrate goals like the double winner vs Liverpool (1971?).

Later on Peter Shilton as I gravitated to being keeper as it involved less running around and being hacked ( our school was rough).

Good thread

Davie Provan and Charlie Nicholas.

Provan used to wear his socks round his ankles and was a great winger. Charlie Nick was a goalscoring genius with Celtic first time round but went to the bright lights of London and boring boring Arsenal when he really should have gone to Liverpool.

nearly always Seve Ballestreros but never ever under any circumstances Nick Faldo even though I'm from the same county (hertfordshire) as he was go figure.

my favourite Seve story....
a pal of mine got on the tour around 1990 and was playing in the Italian open and was on the practice range with about 30 other pro's sometime on Tuesday before the tourney started and Seve came to the 18th hole which ran behind where the guys were hitting and every single one of them turned watched seve tee off hit his second shot and putt out before returning to their work. that to me was the ultimate show of respect and the regard to which Seve was held by his competitors at the time probably hasn't been equalled by any European player (tiger certainly but no euro).

for football Liam Brady until Arsenal sold him and i switched allegiances i was only about six! then Hoddle and Mabbut

LOL at Charlie Nicholas good at football and all  but the arsenal players used to have honarary membership of the golf club i played at and charlie turned up one day to play wearing leather trousers and sporting a Shocking pink golf bag he may have got some stick that day!
