Horneris ? The king has given me a lot of extra outs to draw to.

Do you reckon i should continue my raise or just check and get a free river card to make one of my draws?

Im siding with continuing with my raise as i tried to respresent a big pair on the flop, and he may only have a hand like A 9 or 8 9 suited.

Guess he could have a set though.

If so, how much should i raise?

MISREAD

I thought he had 10-9 spades, not 10-8!

Just realised after reading Smart Money's analysis

I'd bet so that if/when you hit, there's more chance you're going to be paid handsomely.

If he has the set though, he's going to come over the top - but that doesn't look likely to me from his betting (or lack of it) so far.

I don't see much wrong with either approach to be honest.  I'd probably bet, miss completely and fire another bet on the river to represent a decent hand, for him to call me with two pair.

Surely if you bet the turn you would want to follow through on the river. However, you don't have the stack to make two decent bets so it is your stack size that dictates that you check behind here, no? Please tell me if i'm talking gibberish.

yeah if you can't scare him off here you won't scare him off on the river.
You could check here and fold if you miss and he bets or you can fire a decent sized bet in. I would go for the second option and hope he folds if he calls just pray the spade hits on the river.

First bet was 45, the pot is now around 120. anything in between 90 and 120 would do.

I think this is another very good question.

I also think that the answer doesn't rely on your table image or style, your perception of your opponent, previous action in the hand, or any other important factor that would usually influence a decision you have to make.

"Pot odds" and "fold equity" make this a very easy push (or significant sized bet that is equivalent to a push, but may look stronger.)

You have 15 outs (13 in worst case scenario aginst a set. (Only 9 outs agaisnt As9s but that's so unlikely it's not worth worrying about.))

With 46 unkown cards, we're pretty much 2/1 to win the hand if it goes to a showdown. There is $115 in the pot, and your opponent has $126 back. So even if you get a call your odds are very close to 2/1 (1.91/1 to be precise; (115 + 126)/126)

Once you add in the very significant fold equity (against hands like A9, TT, JJ, QQ, and even mid pairs) then you are really only left with one decision: "Exactly how much should I bet to commit myself to the pot and look as strong as possible?"

I'd probably bet the pot ($115.) This has the additional, albeit minor, benefit that a player may find it slightlly more difficult staying in the hand when he has to raise (for his last $11) rather than call (if you had bet $126 or more.)
