You need to put in 30,000 to win a total pot of 75,000 so, in pure pot equity terms, you need a 40% chance to call (ignoring the tournament specific situation for now).

With an M of 4, a raise when folded to the button in this situation should be with ATC, which would put it firmly in the call category (Q8s is 56% against ATC).

Would Tighty make this raise with ATC, or would he be a ladder-climbing nit?

Despite his reputation, I think he would make the move, so would call.

I'd begrudgingly fold.  Then make sure I push on his blind next time round.

I would be willing to push here with the Q8, but not too keen on calling Tighty's push.  Especially as he's on 9,999 posts....

Thanks for posting the hand Richard, i am already suprised.

At the time i thought the call was shockingly bad, and despite Andrews equity analysis i dont think he should call here. He has to win in a showdown. If he calls and loses, he has zero fold equity with his tiny stack.
Surely folding then shoving with any 2 cards on his button/SB is preferential to this call.
I quizzed him about the call and he said he was playing to win, which he obviously was, and to be fair he did take an age and then call..........something that doesnt normally happen in Luton.

So so far we have 1 caller and 2 folders. Anyone else want to join in the fun?

I'd better not waste 10,000th post on something jokey and inconsequential, then

Oh bugger

He called, Alex and Matt, another player in the final 5, indicated it was awful

I thought it was ok given my range and the possibility i had ATC.

Yes, it does happen. I am not that tight.

Ordinarily, I'm not one for calling off two thirds of my stack with Q8, but this is a situation where someone has put their chips in in a situation where it is highly likely they could have anything.

Most people would fold here. Tighty knows that, hence the push. I know he knows that, hence the call.

Yes, I could lose and be crippled, but winning a) knocks an opponent out, guaranteeing me another £210, b) puts me up near the chip lead and c) shows that I will call with substandard hands, making opponents think twice about re-raising me, or raising my blind.

I'm essentially knowingly taking a gamble here (albeit one which I have calculated is not as much of a gamble as it may appear at first glance) because I believe it will reap greater benefits later, long term.

If the table was full of people who were happily folding to re-raises then I might fold here, but my first instinct is call.

Auto call

The very last hand of the night goes to Dewi James, who finds ACES and talks Raymond O’Mahoney into calling his all-in preflop bet of 15k.  “If I had AQ, I’d call!” says Dewi.  Raymond calls holding pocket 66’s.

agreed

rather push with any 2 than call here. No fold equity in a call and even with a stack like that, I fold

I fold without question.

As chip leader there is no need to engage with marginal hands. yes there is some semblance of equity in the decision but in fairness it is a poor hand, the only place im playing Q8s is late and im first to enter (with fold equity in favour).  Your doing well as it is there is no requirment to risk so many chips when you can pick spots to lead out later on.  At this stage in the tournament im hardly calling anything but leading out far more often, I dont want to see a flop.
