your views on a ruling please

i am all in 20.000chips  with 2 tables remaining house dealer reaches over and takes my cards as i am speaking to the person next to me whats the ruling and whats a fair ruling, tell you the outcome when i have some replys ..thanks

You're going to have to give me some more information about the situation before I could give you an answer. Were you all-in calling another player, or had you pushed and the action was on another player? Tell us exactly what happened, omitting no detail no matter how small. I assume your cards had irretreivably gone into the muck.

Ironside (or whoever) - can you move this post into the other forum?

Well you rhand is dead. Of you were calling all in then your chips are also gone.

If you were raising a raise already or the blinds then you should have lost that amount.

I've seen players whisper their cards to the dealer/cardroom manager, and them be fished out and returned.

Totally agree with the above, protect your cards at all cost.

Just one thing I was thinking though, say your hole cards are covered by a chip or a card protector and you have chips in the pot, and the dealer doesn't notice the card protector and mucks your cards in error, what would the ruling be then?  Do you have any recourse?  Or does a card protector not give that much protection, and you need to physically hold your cards also to be sure?

As someone who shall remain annonimous said last night at Reigate 'you will know when I have pocket aces, because my hands will be clamped tight to make sure they won't be mucked'.    Duly filed for future reference.

How can a dealer not notice a card protector if it is on top of the cards? If a dealer in my cardroom takes cards with a protector on them I would give you full permission to knock him out!!!

I saw this happen to a well known poker face but in reverse.

Early postion went all in and for some reason pushed his cards over the line with his chips, the dealer mucked his cards but only the BB noticed and so called and got his chips. Surprisingly almost no argument ensued and the hand stood. he was new to the live game and i bet he doesn't do it again, he will probably be bringing a housebrick as a card protector next time.

I don't approve of taking advantage of new players  like that....but then again I'm probably in the minority on that one

The face is a total w$@ker in my opinion, but i thought this before i saw him do this. Nice to see his aces get cracked later sending him to the rail about 6 before the bubble.

This is what I was alluding to in my original post. If a player has taken everything possible precaution in protecting his cards, and yet they are still mucked, it seems that the ruling is totally against the player, even if he's done nothing wrong. In the murky world of poker rulings, it is my understanding that rulings should be made on the basis of fairness - 'Sorry, they're mucked' just doesn't seem fair sometimes.

Chin the dealer!!! Then call a supervisor.LOL.  I had a dealer do something similar (who now works in the pit) my ruling was unfortunately the hand was mucked as it was not possible to retrieve them, The player who won the pot, was told by me in front of all the players that he was entitled to all the pot, however, the gentlemanly thing would be to return the bet back to the hard done by player! As it happens, the guy was in the process of doing this already as he is a true gent. If he had decided to keep all the chips, and the same thing happened to him then I would not state the gentlemanly thing etc. Works both ways and what goes around.....
