Here's the last one for now, but this gets a little more serious.

See THIS young lady? She dealt at Southend. A shy, introvert, young lady, just began dealing, but not equipped with the sharpness of mind or tongue to deal with players abusing her verbally. If she was youor daughter, how prouid would you be? She's lovely.

So twice, geezers move all-in, & she instinctively counts their stack. A little mistake - she is supposed to wait until asked - but two geezers lash into her - "DON'T DO THAT". She goes bright red, but says nothing. They give her some more, & she's misting up in her eyes, we can all see it. "Steady on guys" I say. They carry on, she shrugs her shoulders, as if to say, "I'm sorry, I never knew". "And it's no good shruggung your shoulders girl"...... I catch her eye, give her a wink and a rerassuring smile (OK, laugh if you like) & she gets it, & carries on dealing, by now her hands are shaking.

At the next break, I catch up with her as she mkes for the staff room. "I'm sorry aboit that" I tell her, she's crying now, & I ain't far behind. This is what she tells me.

"I'm a dealer at Brighton, just started. They asked me to come here at a moments notice, I did not want to because I have not finished training yet, but I thought I had better do as I was asked. I got verbally abused all day yesterday (the Thursday) and when I went back to my hotel room, I cried for an hour".

Ok, I hear you say. She's not cut out to be a dealer, get another job. But there are ways of saying it.

Sometimes, I am truly ashamed to be a poker player.

There endeth THIS thread, methinks......

Not much you can say to that I'm afraid...there are certainly a lot of rude and obnoxious people around, not restricted to poker players

There's no excuse for badgering members of staff, who are just trying to do their job

No one, BUT no one, has the right to abuse someone who is just trying to do their job

Poker players in a ranking comp are entitled to expect competent dealers (no excuse for abuse) dealers have to do as they are told, it isn't their fault if they are not properly trained

The only people left with any choice in the matter are casino management, they put people in the firing line and thats where the blame lies

But I will repeat there is NO excuse for abusing the dealer

There endeth THIS thread, methinks......

I'll train her!!! 3 sugars please!!.

seriously though it is down to bad management, on defence of the cardroom staff. Every casino I have worked in there is always a lack of poker dealers (or is there?) Most experienced staff have dealt poker, some to a fantastic level. But when they apply for a job, they don't declare that they know it and refuse to be trained (although I know they are great dealers, they have just been pushed once too far). We don't get paid enough to take the shit that we do. And this looks like a classic "in at the deep end, knock your confidence! Never want to be in the cardroom again" syndrome.
So next time people wonder why we don't employ more cardroom staff, please remember 75% of casino staff can deal the game, 100% of these have all had bad experiences in a cardroom, so you are probably lucky to have the ones dealing to you, but please remember that some are on the edge of having their back broken by a straw!!
There are gentlemen in cardrooms but they are becoming a rare breed. To these players A BIG THANK YOU you are ambassadors of the game.
But for those of you that get your kicks out of abusing dealers, buy a computer download a poker site and go and live your sad little lives on your own. ps. Try not to kick the cat too often!!

Damn Rich i had a post similair in mind whn i was readin the topic lol.

Yeah get her at the broadway and i'll have her quipping in a week. Seeriously tho its a small minority of players who cause this and thre is a lack of competant dealers in most clubs due to the fact that most just dont care. This is why i had to applaud walsall's decision to test dealers Knowledge of the game etc(sorry boss Grin) as its one thing to know how to pitch cards and count chips but understanding certain things in the game is what sets the good dealers apart and has always been something i have tried to instill in anyone i trained

As it is difficult to get ALL the poker dealers in for a meeting, I take a different approach! A good three table home game with all the staff using comp rules covers most things LOL and very profitable too!! I do think it is a great idea what J10 have done and I am taking lead from them and devising my own. Its not just knowledge its understanding.
