If we're talking about the deceased too, then you've got the likes of Bill Hicks, Richard Pryor, Sam Kinison, Lenny Bruce. These guys weren't just comics, they were social commentators too. The only kind of comedian that really matters for me.

Richard Pryor trying to kill himself by pouring a bottle of $700 cognac over himself and and setting himself on fire. he then proceeded to run down Sunset Boulevard totally naked... On fire.

Legend.

Chris 'keep my baby off the pole' Rock, Bill Hicks, Steve Martin and Richard Pryor. Though watching clips of that show got me looking up some guys I'd not seen anything/much of so looking forward to checking them out. Victoria Wood  = about a thousand times funnier than Jo Brand who can't even raise a laugh on Countdown. Joan Rivers was pretty near the knuckle and funny in parts.

Billy Connolly in Number One are you kidding me, ok he was good in his own niche but ffs. Like: Billy Connolly is therefore a better comedian than Bill Hicks, Chris Rock, Harry Hill, Tommy Cooper. That's 'popular vote' for you.
I even found myself laughing at Bernard Manning for once. 'So went on holiday with wife, one of these spanish apartments. but we there 1 day and she goes me, 'eyy, we forgot the Bisto! Here nick next door ask chap if e as any' So I go knock on the guys door he comes I say 'Ay, has thee any bisto?'
'F*** off you spanish c***' he replies, slamming the door in my face.
