I  like science fiction, fantasy, horror or something humorous.

Some books that i have read and really liked are :
lord of the rings
the hobbit
Hannibal
the dark materials trilogy
battlefield earth
it

A very well read blonde, Nakor, recommended some books for me and I'm hooked. Try David Eddings, The Belgariad. The first book is the 'pawn of prophecy'. its amazing and as you go deeper into the books the journey gets better and better and better. what can i say............. its a fantasy quest with sorcery, battles of the gods and the longstanding story of a boy who grows to manhood and his journey to get there. you've got to get these books. I'm on the 2nd series. just got book 1 in the post today and cant wait to get stuck in. Smiley

The two Timewaster Letter books by Robin Cooper.  You'll get the two for a tenner and worth every penny.  Funniest thing I've read in ages.

'Red Dragon' in the Hannibal series, great read.
Iain Banks: Walking on Glass, Complicity, maybe even the Wasp Factory
'The Coma' by Alex Garland. Better than 'The Beach'
Non-fiction: if you like this kind of thing:
Cosmology by Edward Harrison
The Man who mistook his wife for a hat, Oliver Sachs
The Selfish Gene, Richard Dawkins.

only if you like that kind of thing. Best nonfiction I ever read though.

Humour: All the noncartoon Scott Adams stuff is hilarious and brilliant.

the diceman by Luke Rhinehart  thumbs up

That is an odd book, I remember reading it after a friend kept telling me about it a few years ago

I hardly ever read fiction books, but both Papillon  and the Odessa file were great reads .

If you are after an excellent sport book,  It's Not About The Bike by Lance Armstrong is possibly the best biography ever written. I have read it about five times and it got me an A for an English paper at Uni as well  Cheesy .  Great book

I read these books years ago and i must concur a great read especially in line with your previously read and liked.
Also Terry Pratchett  as mentioned by Jungle Cat, The Discworld books are generally superb IMO although you could easily read many of these laying by a pool for two weeks.

Catch 22 by Joseph Heller is a must if you haven't  (some interviewer commented that he hadn't written anything as good as catch 22 in the twenty years since its publication and he replied "No, but nor has anyone else")

Smileys People by John le carre (all Smiley books)

Birdsong by Sebastian Faulkes

American Psycho by Brett Easton Ellis (Horror - if you've seen the film try to forget it first)

Non- Fiction

Stalingrad by A. Beevor

A short history of nearly everything by Bill Bryson

Errr, it's a psychological thriller mate.

Brett Easton Ellis is not a horror writer. He's a social commentator. Read 'Rules Of Attraction'

The complete works of Oscar Wilde, you'd read it again and again and again and if you didnt there'd be something wrong with you.
