Question

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
A $20-$40 game. You are in middle position with K-K and raise an early limper. Only the small blind and the early limper call. There is $140 in the pot and three players. The flop is: Q-4-4, giving you kings over fours. The small blind bets. The early limper folds. Rather than raise, you decide to just smooth-call. You want your opponent to keep betting his queen so that you can raise him on one of the expensive streets. There is $180 in the pot and two players. The turn is the 7. The small blind bets. You now raise. He reraises. What do you do?

Answer

?

Surprisingly enough, I don't agree with the answer.

This Is limit.

Answer from Ciaffone's book later!!!

I call quickly and call on the end. It's $20/$40 and most opponents are capable of representing the 4 at this level and also he could easily be 3 betting you thinking his Queen good kicker is good.

Answer

Fold. Unless you know your opponent to be extremely tricky or simply unpredictable, it is hard to believe that your hand is any good. His most likely holding is something with a four, giving him trip fours. There is $380 in the pot, and it costs you another $40 to call when you are dead to a king. The pot odds are not there to play two outs. Agreed that he called your preflop raise, but he was in the small blind. Many players will call raises out of either blind with any pair, any suited ace, any suited king, any suited connector, and so forth. For him to have a four in his hand is well within the realm of possibilities. If you call now and a blank comes, you must call at the river if he bets.

Huh? Someone tell me how to get in a limit cash game with Mr Ciaffone, the definition of "weak tight!!"

If hes got 4 or 77 or QQ so be it. Call on turn and check call river (Unless its King)...I must reread this book (Middle Limit Poker with J Brier?)

edit: Does anyone think the sb (first to act) would bet out with trip 4 s or Queens full on this flop? Seems the author has a severe case of "monsters under the bed" syndrome...

I concur with flushy and 4 bet it. Can't be a injun behind every tree (wish I could remember who said that). If you are going to fold every time this typw of situation arises most blondites will murder you in a cash game. If hes got it hes got it and you are going to pay him off on the river. How sick would you be when you fold and he proudly shows you his AQ/QJ stating "I knew it was good".

This defines the difference between the old school players, and the online savvy newer breed of aggresive player, who like me cannot put down these kk's to a turn bet in a limit game.this seems to be why the old school book writers are being swamped in today's game by the aggresive players weened on no limit, who suffer the massive swings of that game, and find limit just too pedestrion.
