played in the £25 re-buy sattelite for the Manchester leg of the Grosvenor UK Tour at the G Casino in Manchester on Monday night. First of all let me say what a lovely casino obviously a lot of money has been spent on what Grosvenor describe as their flagship casino.

However the running of the cardroom on Monday night left a lot to be desired, after charging all 40 odd players a £5 registration fee we then found that they didn't have enough dealers to go round and a couple of tables had to self deal. This in Grosvenors flagship tournament in their flagship casino ! It wasn't as if they didn't expect anybody to turn up !

The cards we were playing with looked as if they had come out of a Christmas cracker they were that small, I struggled to make out what hand I had at times ! Why spend milllions on a lovely new casino and then skimp on the cards ? The valet service also left a lot to be desired, I think our table was offered a drink once in two hours.

Then with 30 minutes of the re-buys left at 10.30pm the clock on the screen reverted to 45 minutes, the cardroom supervisor (a young lad totally out of his depth) then told all tables we would carry on the rebuys for another half hour until 11pm.

Then at 10.45pm he came round and said "last 3 hands"......when I questioned this he said that that was the "official"  time to finish the rebuys as the tournament officially started at 9.15pm, totally ignoring the fact that the tournament had really started at 9.30pm.

I only hope they sort this cardroom out before the big boys arrive for the £1,000 tournament or it will be chaos.

does the G in Manchester hold a regular tournament schedule?

i expect self deal and some of the customer service issues you mention are fairly common, they are to the other G I frequent

I would be pretty confident that all stops will be pulled out for the big day, much like they were at Cardiff.

Unfortunately, this is standard practice at the G casino in Manchester. I spend quite a few weeknights staying in Hotels in Manchester, and decided the tourneys there would be a good way to pass the lonely evenings (only so much trumpet polishing one can cope with  Wink)

The first night I turned up, I was sworn at by the guy on the registration desk after I asked whether the tourney was pot limit or no limit. Asked for another £20 as I sat down at the table, because they 'had decided to change the buy in'. Then ended up with a house dealer that didn't know how the game worked (He didn't seem to realise that a flush beats a straight).

I gave it 3 more chances, thinking that it might just be a bad night, but it just got worse. I tried to talk to the cardroom manager, but was told that he was the manager, not me, and he could do what he liked. After a bit more colourful language I decided to give up, and never went back. Strangely, attendances seemed to be dropping every week in the month that I was there, and it wouldn't surprise me if they barely got anyone now.

I hope they bring in external organisers for the GUKPT, or they could be in trouble.....

I have bee nthere 4 times to play including the satellite last Monday which was a farce wit hthe clock but at leats we had a dealer (and attractive as well)

The other times I have played were for the advertised £30 freeezeout on Tuesdays (which actually allows one rebuy!) ezcept the second time I went it had been cancelled for the final of some poker league!

To be honest I have decided not to play live any more except for APAT, blonde events and big buy in tourneys if I qualify online. My preference is definitely online play from now on
