When the FIRST ever deal was done in a "major" poker tournament?

Personally I dont agree with doing deals(not that i have ever been in that position in a major tournament!!!) as I feel it detracts from the climax of what has generally been a very good competition to that pont.

I can see the logic in it, and i expect if i was ever fortunate enough to be in that position it might be hard to turn down "guranteed money".

Also, if it was a tournament where the sponsers had "added" to the prize pool in terms of cash or extra prize(seat to say the wsop), would it be a good idea if they stated that the added prize would be withdrawn if any deals were done?

just wondering what others think.

I would prefer not to do deals at be quite honest but i have made a couple my self at the gutshot, only because it was like 3 in the morning and was no other choice but i agree i think it does take away the climax a little when you have made it that far in a torney and you are really wanting to carry on and win, and when you do make a deal there is allways that little thing in the back of youre mind saying you could have won that torney.

I believe the first 'deal' was done at the 3rd WSOP ME. Doyle, Puggy and Amarilo Slim chopped the $80k and Slim took the title. Apparently Doyle and puggy didn't want any publicity and agreed to let Slim win for a share of the loot. I heard Doyle say in an interview that the plan was for Slim to raise on the river and the other two would fold. He did, however piss the other two off when he began showboating and showing his Bluffs to the crowd ............
