Just done post no. 111

I remember when watching Dickie Bird (classy man) umpiring cricket matches and whenever a team reached 111 he would do a wee dance and that 111 is called a Nelson. Something to do with Nelson having one eye, one arm?

Can anyone enlighten me.

Also any other number stories?

From the Channel 4 website
Nelson - the dreaded score of 111. When this total is reached, the superstitious custom is for the batting team off the pitch to take their feet off the ground. The name was coined in the mistaken belief that Nelson had one eye, one arm and one leg: in fact, he had two legs

It was David Sheperd that hopped when the score was Nelson.

Sandy

That's correct. Shepherd would also do it on 222, 333, etc.
