this hand doesnt involve me, but a friend of a friend who was sitting next to me at a £50, one rebuy, one add on tourny (£150 max).
getting to the later stages, about 22 left or so, blinds are 400/800. hes has about 15k and raises it to 2600 in cutoff with
SB calls and leaves himself about 11k behind.
flop two hearts  three clubs

SB checks, raiser bets 4k. SB then starts talking, things like "the question is, is ures bigger then mine". he decides to then push all in for 11k total

this guy i know took the longest ive ever seen to make his decision (at the time i didnt know his holding, put him on something around 77, and maybe the SB on 55, but this was just my take on things). but knowing he has top pair wiv a 10 kicker, do u call the all in.

he ended up folding, with the SB not revealing or giving much of a clue to his holding. wot sort of holding do u think he had? afterwards, the 108 guy was annoyed he didnt call and started to believe he had best hand

He's committed almost half of his stack to the hand already (albeit he has the SB covered slightly so won't get knocked out if he loses the hand anyway).

Why would you make the bet on the flop if you weren't prepared to follow it up when re-raised (as is a distinct possibility).  He should have considered this before making the bet in the first place, not thought about it afterwards.

As it stands, he's committed himself to call IMO, but should have done all his 'what if' analysis prior to making the bet.

Spot on.

It is an all too common mistake,, betting an amount and NOT considering what to do if re raised. I have been guilty of this in the past.

Yep, I agree with the rest of the guys.

Why would you take the trouble to raise with 10-8...hit and bet top pair...only to fold...to an amount equivalent to what you have already committed.

He has put a total of 6,600 in with his hand and is being asked to commit a further 7,000. He could well be ahead here but will certainly have cards to hit if not. If you are not going to call then folding pre-flop and saving yourself the effort is far better.
