Think that's only the second time in Liverpool's history that they've lost on penalties in a competitive match.
From the commentary, I think we were lucky to finish second...

Squad depth the issue again? Where is the youth system to compare with the big boys?

TBF although the "other three" had better performances this week most of their teams were young players BOUGHT by the club rather than spotted ability, brought in and nurtured from an early age.

H&G will have to sell for less than their asking price. There are potential new owners waiting (plural), but because of H&G's delaying tactics, it'll be sometime during this season that it all happens. Too late to rescue this season though.
? You're 3 points off 4th having already entertained Arsenal and gone away to City and United in the first 5 games, with a new manager,3 new midfielders and one of the worlds top 5 strikers not having started playing yet. I can understand fans wanting to play down expectations but it's far too early to be making Kop-out statements like that! fyp

How can you suggest that on a night when Man City and Chelsea also went out?

Not sure I understand what you mean here. What's the difference between someone "bought" from another club and "spotted ability"? Spotted where....in the street with his mates? Or spotted playing for another team and then bought in by the club? Jack Wilshere came from Luton but he was 9 when he arrived at Arsenal..does that not count because he wasn't at Arsenal since he started using the big boys potty? Cesc was at Arsenal at 16..to me that still makes him a product of Arsenal's youth system. Surely by definition "youth" players who make the first team have all been nurtured from an early age? Perhaps Liverpool's youth players just aren't as good?

Arsenal are years ahead of us in terms of youth development so comparing players who are blossoming now will put most clubs miles ahead of us - not just Arsenal who outshine everyone except Barca at youth level. I would like to think the more recent recruits from the last 2 years or so will do well. Pacheco, Sterling, Shelvey etc but only time will tell.

Yes and it's behind but improving. To the first bit having 4 transfer windows in a row where we make a profit cannot be good for the squad. A year or two back it was really getting there. To the second bit a lot of people in and around the academy think it's catching up steadily. The youth coaches and talent spotters are ex Barca (blatantly poached by Benitez) and they are still part of the staff.
